The problem of bangaldeshis is not new. EVer since the formation of Bangladesh, there has been illegal migration. I was told by a friend living in calcutta that under yothi Basu's regime. these illegal migrants were given ration card by cpm after taking Rs.100 which gives the status of a citizen almost. the damage was done long back and Mamtha is trying to clean the stables. From the accent one can identify a real bengali from bangla deshi. She must call the centre for deportation of these guys who are responsible for thefts, dacoities, prostitution, murder etc., in the places they have migrated to. Orissa also suffers form the migration of these bangla deshis. WB and Orissa must jointly take up this problem with centre for deportation and freeing themselves from the unwanted expenditure over these illegals
"Bengal democracy in darkness, says scientist Partho Sarothi Ray"

"... Ray insisted at a press conference within hours of walking out of jail that he had been framed, and described the situation in Bengal as a "dark state of democracy". "I was not on the spot on April 4," Ray said, referring to the police crackdown on a rally by Nonadanga squatters near Ruby Hospital to protest against their eviction. "I was busy in a faculty meeting on the IISER campus, 70km away from Tiljala. The minutes of the meeting are recorded. I stayed on campus that night. Even after producing documentary proof, I was sent to jail. In the process, I lost 10 days of my life," added the scientist, who was granted bail on Tuesday and walked out of Alipore Central Jail at 9.55am on Wednesday. He was charged under stringent IPC sections 143, 147, 149, 186, 283, 332, 336, 341 and 353 for assaulting policemen and provoking people to commit crimes."

Time Delhi imposes President's rule on Bengal to banish the wicked woman to political oblivion and bring civilized governance in Bengal. Otherwise, there is going to be hell there.
This state of affairs reminds me of the tyranny in Bengal during the Muslim rule of Shirajudullah under the Sultans in Lucknow which brought the English on the door step.
>> "You might be aware that, recently the Government of West Bengal has undertaken a massive eviction drive of slum dwellers with police force without any rehabilitation measures."
Oh yes morons!! These are all illegal slums, most of the residents being illegal Bangladesis. If you are so fond of them, you can shelter them in your homes. And, past expereince shows that rehabilitation does not work with these people for two primary reasons:
1. Rehabilitation often means migrating to a place far from their place of work.
2. Even if rehabilitated, many of them simply lease their homes to others and go back to the slums.
Those who rant about their "freedom" must acknowledge that they have some responsibilities as well.
It seems, in every State in India, it is a "Goonda Raj". Tribalism is back! Perhaps India will be carved again and fighting within States will start.
It is comical to see Noam Chomsky on the list-the guy who supported the brutal suppression in Nandigram-on the ground that opposing it would strengthen the anti-left forces. His concern right now is very touching.
Had it not been addressed to the PM, even MMS would have signed this protest letter.
YHWH >> How logical are these cultural marxists, leftists and enemies of logic
I dont know whether they are logical but they are entertaining for sure !
Ganesan >> What can the poor man do?
He will forward the letter to the supreme command of Indian government, i.e Sonia/Rahul gandhi. We have a brilliant economist as Prime Minister but problem is our economist gentleman thinks that PM means Post Man and see you should appreciate MMS for taking the PM (PostMan) job seriously.
HA HA HA... DEVILS QUOTING FROM SCRIPTURES ! OR BUTCHER TALKING ABOUT THE GOODNESS OF VEGANISM ! OR AN ARMS DEALER TALKING ABOUT THE NEED FOR WORLD PEACE...
THESE LEFTIST MORONS , WHERE WERE YOU WHEN BENGAL WAS RULED/RUINED FOR 35 YEARS BY YOUR MARXIST COMRADES? AND THOSE UMPTEEN STRIKES AND BANDHS WHICH HURT IN THE BELLY OF THOSE PETTY TRADERS AND WORKERS OF UNORGANIZED SECTOR? WAS THAT ALL NOT VIOLENT SUPPRESSION OF THE RIGHT TO LIVELIHOOD OF THE POOR
BUT THEN, SELF INTROSPECTION AND HUMILITY IS LAST THING TO EXPECT FROM YOU ARM CHAIR LEFTIES..
How logical are these cultural marxists, leftists and enemies of logic. The letter starts with an effusive appraisal of Dr. Partho Sarothi Ray and along came his laurels and accolades. Spare me of the baloney. It seems that the writers of letter have taken the logic straight out of Crime and Punishment and what could be described as the thought of the protagonist Raskolnikov. It means that some one who is educated and has been awarded a fellowship can do anything illegal.
Even if Partho has a right to protest against a government move, he has no right to riot. If he was protesting against the government move, he could have assaulted the public servant, caused dispurtion, by all means have done everything he has been charged with. If there is no ducumentary proof to prove otherwise, the above hypocrites have no right to accuse the government of high handedness.
By the way, what is the need of going on protest in a democratic country when you live under the rule of law. Go to court and get injuction against the government order. File a PIL. Go to Supreme Court. Hell file an RTI against department for any god damn reason. Why is the need to go out in protest, or political protest.
I support the appeal in this letter. People have a right to protest and to express their dissent. Peaceful demonstrations as well as published satire are legitimate means to express dissent. High-handedness on the part of a government must be nipped in the bud, otherwise it has a tendency to escalate.
I can visualize a scene: Manmohan Singh hiding under a bed and in comes these professors complaining to MMS and MMS consoles them by saying he is also Mamta's victim and invites all professors to join him under the bed.
What is the point in writing to PM? Mamata gives identical treatment to Manmohan Singh himself. Think of the number of ways she has humiliated him. What can the poor man do?
It is such a sorry state of affairs that so many eminent personalities have to write a letter to our PM about the wayward and oppressive actions of a Chief Minister of a prominent state. It appears that Ms Mamata Banerjee wants her status as a ‘fighting Opposition leader’ restored faster than people expect. She has refused to accept that she is just not Trinamool Congress chief but Chief Minister of West Bengal.
