How can an Arab citizen, no matter how loyal he be to the state, sing the words of Hatikvah without being ashamed of himself? His is not a “Jewish soul.” Its words are an affront

National anthems and national songs should be free of any religious references so that everyone can sing them with gusto. As Avnery says, "Hatikvah can remain as the anthem of the Jewish people everywhere if they so wish. A new song will be the anthem of the State of Israel and all its citizens."

Is Avnery suggesting the Arab citizens of Israel take up arms like the Al Qaeda stooges in Libya and Syria whom he backs to the hilt? If they do, will he back them against his fellow Zionazis?
