Muslims did not buy this Rushdie angle and Congress did not get their Votes in 5 States Elections particularly in UP .

You are obviously entitled to your subjective and in my view stultified opinion. But that you choose to masquerade your thinly veiled envy and lack of talent as 'fair-minded' obective criticism, by name-dropping Arundhati Roy and by self-promotioin of your own blog is evidence that you have ulterior, base motivations. "Fury" and "Ground Beneath Her Feet" were in my opinion, magisterial works of truly awesome art. Fury combined a variety of literary styles seamlessly and with tremendous panache. Ground Beneath Her Feet, an incomparable ode to rock music and deep love, was written with a quirky genius that it is most readers' rare pleasure to encounter. Unlike your own turgid, pretentious and thoroughly virtue-less prose, Rushdie's work was not a treatise on political moralism but an entertaining work of fiction that explored Western and Eastern myths with a grandeur that was more powerful than you could ever fathom. I suggest that you direct your impoverished psyche and your envy-ridden yellow prose to describing more of your petty encounters with famous writers. You clearly enjoy that most.

You are mostly correct, but if you see the Republican party of today, you may wonder. Moreover the US may be worse in this respect than many European countries, because the House of Representatives has elections every two years and the Presidential electioneering lasts for 12 to 14 months.

Anwaar that might be true but it is a question of degrees. For us in India, Democracy has become only about elections - before it, after it we are elected monarchies. The parties themselves are very undemocratic - mostly family affairs, one man/woman shows or remotely controlled. I am only hopeful because I believe like a catalytic mechanism, democracy breeds inside it the seeds of its success. So continuous practice (even if mostly claims of practice) will sooner or later get you to a better place.
