@ Suresh,

"Did he bring a pair of J's slippers to keep on the throne ?"

Please don't give chamcha no 1 such ideas. He might actually do such a thing to highlight his loyalty.

Sycophancy has already taken a heavy toll of the political system and it is high time such practices are discouraged.

Such are the examples that have given chance to one of the foreign cricketers asking a simple question in a press meeting just recently- WHY IS THE INDIAN LAW LENIENT ON RICH AND CELEBRITIES ?  The said cricketer appears true in his saying.

Rajdeep was the one who toured gujarat in 2002 during the roits and kept on barking on the top of his voice the so callled injustise, orchetrated roits etc.  He personally felt that NAMO was behind the roits. But you know that ye public hai sab Jaanti hai.

Not a bad deal for Jaya.

100 crores fine IN LIEU OF 5000 crores of loot money ( the 200 acres on OMR alone is worth 2000 crores in todays money )

The ONLY punishment of impact will be 10 years of inability to stand for election - which in other words means: early retirement from politics.

Not a bad deal, considering she is worth 30000 crores in todays money.

Islam and its interpretations

What is unique about Islam is that while other religious movements, particularly Christianity, got over their early violent origins, it failed to move on and update its theological precepts

We have seen a great deal of quibbling over the meaning of jihad. Muslims insist that the “real” concept of jihad does not involve violence and bears no resemblance to Islamists’ interpretation of it. The “real” or “greater” jihad, they say, means a peaceful inner spiritual struggle. An armed struggle against an external enemy is regarded as “lesser” jihad and permitted only in specific circumstances — for example, in self-defence. Theoretically true. Yet, it is also true that around the dining table in Muslim households, the term jihad is invariably used in its violent sense and mentioned in the same breath as “kaafirs.” I grew up in an extremely liberal environment, but I don’t recall, in private conversations, jihad ever being referred to in its philosophical sense. In Indian Muslim discourse, the term normally used for personal struggles, whether social, economic or emotional, is “jaddo jehad” derived from Urdu.

Extremists can be accused of inventing circumstances that, in their opinion, would justify violent jihad, or of targeting the wrong “enemy,” and using appallingly brutal methods of executing their “jihad.” But they cannot be accused of inventing the notion of violent jihad itself. There is no denying the streak of violence which — according to distinguished British Pakistani Islamic scholar Ziauddin Sardar — is “inherent” in Islam. But that is not the point. All religions, especially those which set out to gain followers through proselytisation and to conquer empires, have violent histories. Campaigns to “Christianise” Pagan Europe in the Middle Ages were not always peaceful, and then, of course, there is the bloody history of Inquisition and the Crusades.

To a large extent, Islam is often wrongly and wilfully portrayed as being somehow unique in having had a violent history. But what is unique about Islam is that while other religious movements, particularly Christianity, got over their early violent origins, it failed to move on and update its theological precepts. There has been no Islamic equivalent of Enlightenment and Renaissance, and the Islamic mindset remains awkwardly out of step with historical progress, and therefore with modern times — a hiatus reinforced by attempts to assert an Islamic identity through beards and hijabs.

Muslims will cite Koranic verses and Hadith to underline Islamic injunctions against violence; its command to treat women with respect and accord them equality; its message of tolerance, love, brotherhood, and its exhortation that we treat even our enemies with respect and try to win them over through love and persuasion rather than force. But this is one face of Islam. It also has another, less pleasant, face. For, the Islam preached by the Taliban and their fellow travellers is also Islam; and if you ask them, they will also cite Koranic verses and Hadith to back their claims. Their methods may be extreme but their philosophy does derive legitimately from the same Islamic theology that the good face of Islam does. Muslims must stop being in denial about it.

And this brings us back to what lies at the heart of the problem with Islam — namely the somewhat rough-and-ready nature of the fundamentals of Islamic sources, including the Koran, the central religious text of Islam comprising truths which, Muslims believe, were revealed to the Prophet by Allah from time to time until his death. The Koranic text, in the form of “aayts’’ (verses), is not thematically linked nor provides context with the result that an “aayt” which might have originated in a specific context is sometimes contradicted by another “aayt” on the subject but stated in a different context. This allows a free-for-all scramble for people to grab what might suit them in a given situation. Hence the confusion and the spectacle of extremists and their opponents both quoting the Koran in support of their positions. There is a similar confusion over Hadith, as explained earlier.

The difference between Suroor and Anwaar is that while Suroor uses many of the same arguments as Anwaar, he accepts that there are significant sections of Muslims who practice the violent version of the religion which friend Anwaar dismises as un Islamic and therefore, irrelevant. The problem which Anwaar and "moderates" like him refuse to accept that it is THEIR responsibility to take control of their religion. Simply arguing that Hinduism has its faults, is no defence.

Incidentally, while discussing religions' violent pasts, Suroor specifically talks about proselytising religions like Christianity. Hinduism for all its faults has never sought to convert people of any other religion by force.

I always wondered how and why Indian viewers watch/listen to such presstitutes day after day?  Living in India and criticising Modi constantly is, may be a freeom of press, but doing the same thing in a foreign country?  It is bordering on getting branded as traitors.  When most Indians were feeling proud that their leader is treated as a 'Rock Star', this moron was engaging in berating Modi as he had done for last several years.  Shame on him.  Shame on his employer.

Much of what Noorani says in Frontline is simply Nehru thinking aloud in the presence of his secretary. CAIR pracharak

So Nehru fantasized that Dulles, Bulganin and others offered India a seat at the Security Council, and that he turned it down? You have no evidence of this but even we accept this crap, what does it say about JackassLal that he had fantasies of turning such an offer? Only a fool would fantasize such things.

Once again, we see the fanaticism, irrationality and dishonesty of CAIR pracharaks and their sickos buddies like bint Parrot. 126 Muslim scholars present religious rebuttal to Islamic State

(Reuters) - Over 120 Islamic scholars from around the world, many of them leading Muslim voices in their own countries, have issued an open letter denouncing Islamic State militants and refuting their religious arguments.

An array of Muslim leaders and groups have publicly rejected the Islamist movement since it imposed its brutal rule over large areas of Syria and Iraq this summer. Five Muslim nations have also joined a U.S.-led military campaign against it.

The 22-page letter, written in Arabic and heavy with quotes from the Koran and other Islamic sources, is just as clear as those groups in condemning the torture, murder and destruction Islamic State militants have committed in areas they control.

"You have misinterpreted Islam into a religion of harshness, brutality, torture and murder," the letter said. "This is a great wrong and an offense to Islam, to Muslims and to the entire world." (Reuters)

(Nihad Awad of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), presented the letter in Washington on Wednesday.)

Standing by Rajdeep for what?
Abusing and brawling?

After this he-said/she-said thing, hope some 'media', not 'news-traders' (as he called it) publish his version.

Reflecting, rather than standing will make you realise that Rajdeep might be in prison if this guy file charges.
I doubt if there is any VIP treatment for an Indian journalist in US jails of soaps and bendings:

http://rajdeepthenewstrader.blogspot.tw/

When Rajdeep assaulted me
I write this for two reasons: to add context to what is evident from the Zee News video clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54xGasucqAc ; to avoid a Rashomon like state and rebut Rajdeep Sardesai's attempt to paint himself the victim. He a big fish and has friends in the media, so he may succeed, but my job is to stand up.

Bored standing in the long line to get into MSG, I took a quick stroll and saw much media coverage, including the likes of Chaubey, Sawant and Sardesai. I noticed Rajdeep taunt a group of young Indians: He asked them 'Did Modi teach you to do this?..." i.e. shouting Rajdeep Murdabad.
Watch this video to see how Rajdeep was essentially trying to continue his 12 year hate-work in trying to tarnish the PM. http://indiatoday.intoday.in/video/rajdeep-sardesai-modi-crowd-frenzied-modi-fans-new-york/1/393219.html. Unable to get the 'negative' answers he's looking for, Rajdeep says 'So what you guys are saying is that the "Media" was unfair to Modi' (this part is not on videos I have seen). I immediately picked up his spin and shot back: Not the media, it is NewsTraders like you who are unfair. And I called him "NewsTrader No.1". This seems to have made him lose his mind: He removed his jacket, and walked over to me (this is the part in the zee news video) and started verbally abusing me ("arsehole" and other threat-cum-abuse). I was surprised at hearing the abuse and his threatening body language given his ever-cool studio self. I retorted with the same epithet. This led to his turning around and attacking me - grabs my collar and shoves me (guess its his privilege in his un-Modified India). I was left with no choice but to push him back.

I would urge people to note 4 things:
1. Rajdeep indulges in unprovoked tarnishing and demeaning of the Indian PM on foreign soil and Indians living there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F1XP9I49Fw
2. Rajdeep starts the verbal abuse / intimidation
3. Rajdeep starts the physical assault
4. Rajdeep turns around and spins victimhood - 'frenzied Modi fans abuse him'.

Is it even remotely acceptable for a senior Indian journalist to engage in unprovoked insulting of our elected PM on foreign soil while he's on an important diplomatic tour, and wilfully trivialize a unique event (by continuing his political battle with the PM) that allowed the NRI community and the Indian Govt to build a stronger bond?

I believe you just cannot carry your personal battle with your PM onto foreign soil and cause harm to the country.

While I reflect upon what next steps to take, I urge everyone to write to the India Today group condemning such dastardly behavior by their 'senior' employee. I request the media (i have no faith in NewsTraders) to take this message to their viewership.

I reflected much on this since then -- what explains Rajdeep's egregious, shameful and harmful behavior? A apt word in American local parlance sums it up best: He's a Hater.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/bihar-chief-minister-claims-temple-was-purified-after-his-visit/article6458724.ece?homepage=true

"The Chief Minister’s remarks came during his address at a function organised in memory of the State’s first Dalit Chief Minister Bhola Paswan Shastri on Sunday. “During the by-poll in August, when I visited a temple in Madhubani district. My cabinet colleague Ramlakshan Ram Raman told me that the temple was cleaned and the deity washed after I left the place.”

Mr. Raman, Mines and Geology Minister, who too was present on the dais, immediately said he had not given any such information to Mr Manjhi at any point of time.

“I was not even present with the CM when he went to that temple. Neither have I given him any such information,” Mr Raman told The Hindu. “I do not have anything to say on this.”

Vinod Kumar Singh, Mr. Manjhi’s party colleague and MLC from Jhanjharpur in Madhubani where the Parmeshwari Devi temple is located, also disputed the Chief Minister’s statement.

“Nothing of the kind happened. I was present with the Chief Minister in the temple and stayed in my constituency for the next two days. There was absolutely no question of the temple being cleaned and the idol washed,” he said.

The temple’s priest, Ashok Kumar Jha, said the statement appeared to be politically motivated. “One cannot wash the deity, as she is made of mud,” he said."

This guy is crying "caste discrimination" in the same way that CAIR cries "Islamophobia" - they have an agenda and they will fabricate incidents as needed for their agenda. The mainstream press falls for it hook, line and sinker, and by the time truth comes out, people have moved on.

Modi should say he will allow Christian Missionaries to carry out conversions, but only if they show that they are spending equal resources/spending equal efforts in converting Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs.  I have a strong feeling that Muslims, Sikhs and Buddhists would kill them.  Our religious freedom would satisfy Congressmen.  And we will get what we want.

Key weasel words here are "Then the pushing and shoving begins. A barrage of abuses follow." Notice that there's no mention about who's doing the pushing, shoving and abusing. Until then it was "Rajdeep is smiling" etc. but when it comes to the shoving, no names - why? Was it because it was Rajdeep started the pushing and shoving? He did, didn't he. It's quite clear from the video. Hence the weasel words to avoid saying that he started the physical altercation. Do you think he's not have directly named the other party if that gentlemen had started it?

"What? Wow! That's a power move right there! Standing next to Wolverine and throwing out Star Wars quotes! Bear in mind, this guy was banned from entering the United States up until just four months ago for his role in the Gujarat riots! That's quite a turnaround for him!"

Hmm. He didn't try too hard it seems. Why should Modi quote from Hugh Jackman films? The event wasn't set up to honor Jackman! Only in such a case would this statement merit a thought. The rest of the stuff was just a series of non-sequitors. Stuff he said because he wanted to say it, not that it's relevant or funny. Fail, really.

First time I've heard an unequivocal statement from the Indian govt. taking a firm stand with China. Just goes to show how weak Congress govts. and even the Vajpayee govt. was with China. None of them had the *you know what's* to make it clear where they stand vis.a vis China. Hats off to the Modi govt.

This is  an euphimism for allowing Christian missionary work in Tamil Nadu, Assam. AP etc. Details can be found in "Breaking India" by Rajiv Malhotra. Modi probably knows already.

@Saroja: It is better to stick with the truth even if you are a fan of Modi. An unplesant truth is much better than a plesant lie.

The economic balance is the difference (FISCAL DEFICIT - TRADE DEFICIT ) = NET PRIVATE SAVINGS and we want the left side to be maximized. This increases NET SAVINGS and FISCAL DEFICITS being free will promote skills and R&D for development and develop real can-do. Talking about skills won't develop any. Increasing FISCAL DEFICITS will. Can-do in rock concers will no-can-do to the real economy!

Interest rate cuts depress the economy. People on retirement will have to do with less income

and the economy will have less money to grow. This effect overrides the fact things will be cheaper for most consumers.

DLN,

>> "What is communal about discussing historical figures like Mahmud Ghaznavi or Muizuddin Muhammad Ghori? Their glories have been well chronicled."

They were robbers who came to loot gold. You may keep yourself willfully ignorant of the glories of Muslim rule in India, but now you want to cynically tarnish it. But for a rabid hate-filled communalist like yourself this is not surprising.

Much of what Noorani says in Frontline is simply Nehru thinking aloud in the presence of his secretary. Dulles and Eden must have known that there was no way China's SC seat could have been given to India, and Bulganin must have known that to have a sixth permanent member of SC a change in UN charter had to be made which the USSR had no power to do. The idea that the U.S. and the USSR would jointly work on the project of putting India in the SC is something that only simpletons like Fedup/Bibi would fall for. Remember this was the height of the Cold War!
