Wow! A new editor-in-chief (Delhi Diary, Feb 13)! I’ll miss the irrepressible Vinod Mehta, but I’ll miss Editor, VM’s dog, even more.
Bharath, Bangalore
Heartiest congratulations to Krishna Prasad on his new job! Let us hope Outlook henceforth gives space to a spectrum of views, rather than give voice to only conventional, JNU-style left-liberal, pro-Congress ones. Those have had us dog-tired!
Ramki, New Delhi
When undeserving netas cling on to their ‘kursis’, it is unfair of Vinod Mehta to say bye this abruptly. Outlook won’t be the same without him.
Umesh Kesavan, Madurai
I just read the diary and got to know about the new editor-in-chief. It seems people who are in the business of news scoops protect news from their end with secrecy. I think no journalist would probe into the sudden exit of Mr Mehta!
Shantam Iqbal, Freiburg, Germany
Congratulations, Mr Prasad! Hope to see the independence of Outlook taken to new heights under your stewardship.
Thomas K. Mathai, Mysore
Let’s not be taken aback by Mr Mehta’s sudden exit. He has walked into the sunset with a bottle of whisky and a song on his lips.
K. Suresh, Bangalore
Congrats KP! Wish you lots of success. Please stop Outlook from being a mouthpiece of Sonia and Co.
Kiran Voleti, Chennai
My heartiest congratulations to Vinod Mehta on his excellent autobiography. I remember I met him when he was the editor of the Sunday Observer, to suggest a weekly column on tax by my father, R.N. Lakhotia. Mr Mehta was happy with the idea, and my father contributed for quite some time.
Subhash Lakhotia, New Delhi
Fabulous anecdote, the one on Mencken! It confirms that successful editors have at least six holes each in their heads, and their visa for hell is issued on earth, in a magazine office.
Harsh Rai Puri, Bhopal
After running Kasturi, the only Kannada language digest for 32 years, and after receiving marching orders from the erstwhile so-called editor K. Shamarao without any proper reason, I’m inclined to agree with what H.L. Mencken had said.
Shreekant Malagi, on e-mail
Krishna Prasad begins well with a pot-shot at the ‘hack pack’. But don’t you think the following sentence—“it is difficult to believe if anodyne arithmetic loaded with ifs, buts and howevers is all our ‘Monday Morning Quarterbacks’ can serve up to explain what is happening”—is a bit heavy after the simple style of Mr Mehta?
Manish Banerjee, Calcutta
Apropos the item The Drowning Glory in Krishna Prasad’s Delhi Diary (Feb 13), 20 years after reforms, the glass is 99 per cent full for the one per cent; and one per cent full for the remaining 99 per cent. Regarding liberalisation’s success, it depends on who succeeded. Industries may collapse, flights get cancelled, human development indices lurk near the bottom, but at least our Ambanis succeed in getting themselves into lists of the world’s billionaires.
J.F. Dawson, Chennai
Where is Vinod Mehta? How can he just disappear without bidding goodbye to his loyal readers? Has he taken a long leave, resigned...or been sacked? We miss him. Please at least publish a ‘last’ Delhi diary.
Annant S., Pune
Has there been a wordless revolution at Outlook? Where is Vinod Mehta? His name figures nowhere now—with or without his consent. There was no hint of a change nor a word of farewell. A curious thing!
Atin Gupta, New Delhi
@VNK MURTI, "Unwept, unsug, May be unceremonious TOO"
I don't think so. The Lucknow boy's luck turned with Lunknow boy selling, got invited to a literary meet, was surrounded by celebrity autograph hunters. Golden handshake, I must say.
Dear Vinod mehta, went to suset. Unwept, unsung. May be unceremonious TOO!!!
Like the new format of the online coverpage.
Only through this Delhi Diary, i came to know about new editor in chief of Outlook. It seems people who are in the business of exposing scoops live protect their territory with secrecy.
I will say, it is an unceramonious exit of Mr. Mehta. Problem is no journalist would like to go deeper into the story. Why?
Wow! a new editor. But ,I will surely miss Mr. Editor- VM's dog!
Dear Krishna Prasad,
Congratulations for your new job. Let us hope that Outlook henceforth gives space to a spectrum of views, rather than publish only the conventional JNU Left Liberal Congress Supporting, dynasty worshipping views that are pushed edition after edition , year after year .
@Anwaar - "My wish for you is that you never find your job to be as dreadful as H.L.Mencken suggested."
Dreadful ?? Don't be alarmed. KP has seen VM walking into the sunset with a bottle of whiskey and a song on his lips.
Congrats KP, wish you all the very success. Please stop Outlook from being a mouthpiece of Sonia & Co...
Congratulations. Hope to see the independence of OL taken to new heights under your leadership.
Congratulations on your promotion, Mr. Krishna Prasad. My wish for you is that you never find your job to be as dreadful as H.L.Mencken suggested.
H.L. Mencken , whoever he was, seems to me a super kind of bloke. He seems to have foreseen the Indian news channel editors. Don't you , busters, feel the same like sending some thing by the same mail , seeing Arnab Goswami screaming non-stop, pointing fingers , throwing his hands, jerking shoulders, cutting down mid- sentence big time editors, top lawyears , scientists, army generals , least but not last these unfortunate creatures called spokespersons to size, uttering last word on every thing or everyone be them Salman Rushdie , Salman Khurshid or Salman Butt, or Salman Khan !
"In an Oceania of banned books, essays, plays, movies, documentaries, art shows, TV skits and websites" - that is overstating the fact Mr. Krishna Prasad. They have as yet not banned whole goddamn internet.
And having said that I must admit "Tongue in cheek, you could argue that the latest slight is proof that those who live by lawyers are destined to die by them." is rather a good one.
Mr. Krishna Prasad begins well with a pot shot at the 'hack pack'. But don't you think "it is difficult to believe if anodyne arithmetic loaded with IFS, buts and howevers is all our “Monday Morning Quarterbacks” can serve up to explain what is happening." is a little heavy afrter child like simplicity of Vinod Mehta.
One can only hope and pray, that Krishna Prasad will be different to Vinod Mehta who labelled a sinner like Sonia as a Saint.
fabulous anecdote.. confirming that successful editors have at least 6 holes in their head and their visa for earth is issued in hell!
