We do admissions for top engineering colleges in Karnataka/ Tamil Nadu/Maharastra/MP.I can do for the very cheap rates. Call me at 09945196332 or email me at admiss08@gmail.com
Rankings are given, based upon the data sent/collected by/from every college. Everyone should understand that.
MCKVIE has atleast one topper every year in WBUT Check to see Yourself
http://www.bestengineeringcollege.co.in/
no engg college for senior citizens. this is cultural marxism where people of old age are considered redundant.
for all thise who are seeking admissions in engineering institutes this year .. plz dont follow this ranking as it doesnt rank many major colleges as in many nits(rourkela, nagpur bhopal,surat,calicut,etc).. and it has ranked nit hamirpur at 22 and one of my freind left that college and joint daiict . they dont have even a plcement cell.....and to be frank I havnt heard of the 75 % colllges ranked here in this list.
Top 10 engg colleges (self managed) according to me--> 1) BITS-Pilani 2)IIIT Hyderabad 3)BIT Mesra 4)Thapar-Patiala 5)VJTI Mumbai 6)RVCE Bangalore 7)DAIICT-Gandhinagar 8)Manipal Inst of Tech 9)PSG Coimbatore 10) VIT-Vellore
Accepting the fact that all the IITs and NITs are better than these except (BITS,BIT,IIIT).
I dont have any issues with the ranking criteria.. It seems to be fair. But how did DA-IICT didnt make up to this list??????
While NIRMA university (just 20 kms from our college) is placed at 30th spot. There even the brightest student doesnt knows whether he will be placed or not(I have seen few examples).
The selection at DA-IICT gets closed under AIR 15000 AIEEE. So if u havnt got that good rank in JEE or AIEEE and you have interest in comp science or elctronics and comm. this is the college you should look for.(U wont regret I guarantee).
In our college there is 100% placement and this time the highest package was of 50 Lakhs by mozilla(of campus) and 16 Lakhs by microsoft (on campus). The average was around 5.5 Lakhs.(Exact Figures).
And the faculty here is just awsome. All are PHDs, where 70 % of them are educated from foreign universities and the rest from IITs, NITs and BITS. So if you are looking for higher studies in some foreign univer. you could get a healthy recommendation.
Our M.Tech students take classes in IIT gandhinagar and some other local colleges. and our faculty is visting faculty of many colleges including IITs.
We have hostel facility for all the students , fully wifi campus.100mbps lan at each and every corner of the college including hostel, lush green campus, fully loaded library and marvelous campus life .
biased outdated survey !!
it sucks
Outlook rankings are probably the best source of Engineering College Rankings based on the parameters selected by the Outlook Team, but I personally donot think that these colleges capture the actual preferences of the Recruiters and students. The current ranking rates IIT KGP over and above college IIT Bombay, which might be true given the parameters taken into consideration, but again most of us will agree IIT Bombay has more preference when it comes to recruiters and students.
I have heard about College Khabar Rankings which is trying to capture the exact idea which I just mentioned www.collegekhabar.com/ranking/ . I think the Outlook team should look at it and maybe do something similar for their next round of Rankings.
akash,
see am not talking about 1% of the people studying in vit's and manipal's getting jobs....i know what i have said about this VIT because i went with my cousin for his counselling there and then collected all the details in detail with an assistant professor of VIT cse department...he told me that there are 180 faculty in cse department but when i enquired how many phd's his reply was 4 or 5...is it enough for an engineering college??? next i asked which companies came last year for campus placements....he started telling the names including google too...so i asked him how many did it recruit from vit ...and that mister replied to me that since google's selection procedure was not good it din't take any of our students...just see from the whole lot of over 600 students eligible for google's placement procedure there ....even 1 could not clear ....on the contrast in nit's and iit's google recruits atleast 3 from the strength of 200 odd students...and how could a proffesor criticize the procedure of the best complany in the IT industry....another thing go to VIT's website and have a look at their syllabus,,,,they seem to be teaching management history english everything apart from engineering....and then look at the sylaabus of the colleges i mentioned above....see giving 4lakhs p.a for nothing beneficial to an aspiring engineer and for an environment where people defy INDIAN culture with activities like drugs and cheap fashion is not a very good thing to do in my eyes......i understand that this drugs and drinking all happens in iit's and nit's too but the number of people doing is very less compared to VIT and MANIPAL..... i am an NITian myself and i can assure you of the facts i have described above....the techfest and cultural fests held in my college are not for calling bollywood superstars and engaging money from others for that....it's primary objectives remain what it should be....singers and bands and filmstars are sidethings...and in VIT you could hear from everyone that sonu nigam came but they never tell that he came for 8-9 lakh and that money was included in the fees....is that what we give fees for...compared to rs 22000+9000 fees of my college which includes mess and hostel fees too for a semester the fees is 4lakh for the VIT ....now everything should be clear to u why i gave them those rankings....its not about aicte and all otherwise college like SRCC would have been under grade 1 college list....you can't trust the decisions of indian goverment everyone knows that...a handfull of money to them and its done....
MR AKASH ,

Regards,
Rest:
The rankings make sense in a logical way that-
BLOC-1 : Premier
The IITs and BITS, pilani remain the top choice for all would be engineering majors, best infrastructure, a good brand to associate yourself with and great alumni networks. The creme-de-le-creme of technical institutes of india
BLOC-2 : Legacy old colleges
Anna univ- Guindy, BIT-Mesra, DTU, PSG, ISM, Jadavpur
BLOC-3 : National
NIT- trichy, warangal, surathkal, COEP, IIIT-Hyderabad, VIT, ICT-Mumbai
BLOC-4 : Second tier
rest NITs, IIITs, private colleges and the lot.. this would be the most confusing section as the choice of college is less important than the branch you wish to study. Because the brand in itself would not let you secure a place in society.
First off, let me correct most of you in saying 'BITS, Mesra'.. its 'BIT'- MESRA.. without the 'S'.. and it is indeed Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. So i hope everyone would correct that and BIT MESRA stands on a 800 acre campus in ranchi established in 1955.. while BITS, pilani came into existence 11 years later.
Coming from Mumbai i enrolled there because it remains one of the legacy colleges of yore which still operates as a private college while it was among the first 15 colleges of excellence to be given university status. The intake is through AIEEE and the competition is hard for CSE and core branches.
The current crop of private colleges does not compare with respect to the alumni network and brand value the 'BIRLA' tag holds.
Being a old college also ensures a experienced faculty.. plus the placement policies are very liberal.. upto THREE offers per student which gives us a lot of leeway in opting for companies.
This year Microsoft gave the same 56 LPA package also offered in NIT Trichy and surathkal plus for Computer Science: the other companies are Oracle, Directi, Samsung while top companies like CAT, Delloitte, Goldman Sachs and 100+ other companies make the placements a breeze with alumni in prominent positions.
The BIT, MESRA campus is beautiful as it is large and the ranchi being a former hill station is very cool too. The only con being the distance to the city. The studies are hard, strict attendance but the extra-curriculars make up for it. And the location is lovable with the 800 acres resembling a semi-township... huge by any standards.
I studied at KV, IIT-Bombay so i felt BIT-Mesra was comparable in all standards. Sports, Curriculars, hostels etc. The other campuses of BIT are in Patna and Deogarh which could be an option if you fail to secure stellar AIEEE ranks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birla_Institute_of_Technology,_Mesra
"Ignorance could lead to lost opportunities" - so please do some research before enrolling in any college, the ranks are just a indicator, but first hand info about the infra, placements and faculty/alumni could serve you to get into a college which suits individual needs best, BIT-Mesra worked for me, but you gotta get your own wish-list..
Best of luck for them undergrads.. spend your 4-years wisely.. get into a college which serves you best and try to clear all exams so that you have options.
NIT is an eyewash while IIT is not. Please be careful putting all NIT's in one bracket. Outlook has done a good job and do not label false charges without proof against them.
let me give you colleges people will choose...
Bangalore/Karnataka: NIT Surathkal/RV College of Engg/Manipal.
Mumbai- IIT-Mumbai, VJTI, UDCT
Pune- COE Pune, MIT-Pune.
Tamil Nadu- IIT-Chennai, VIT-Vellore, PSG-Coimbatore
Kerela- NIT-Calicut
Eastern region- IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Guwahati (ur college), NIT-Rourkela, ISM, Bengal engg college
Punjab- Thapar, Punjab engg college
other colleges people will go to are- IIT's, NIT Trichy, BITS Pillani, IT-BHU etc.
Mr Priyank,
First of all write comments with your name only. Do not become Rahul/Ankit overnight. If you are from IIT Guwahati, OK , we include it in the list. No doubt about the IIT's here. Now coming back to facts about Manipal and VIT Vellore, do not spread rumours. They are the best after IIT's now. They conduct all india entrance test and not easy to crack them..... 100% seats are from entrance. OK in NIT;s also there are reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC etc. so yes if you r from reserved quota you can get a seat in NIT with even 50% marks. r u not from NRISSt arunachal, or whatever it is. never heard about it really.
Dear VINOD MEHRA
I can't understand why are you trying to sell the goodwill of your esteemed megazine for handfull amount of money. Why are you missleading the people by publishing this list....
You tell honestly will you let your son to goto MIT PUNE,VIT,MANIPAL.... if he will be getting IITG too.......
DEAR AAKASH
PLEASE ACCEPT THE TROUTH...
To AKASH
I am from IITG and actually it doesn't matters from where i am,i am telling the truth which you people should accept,i know it you belongs to some rich and prosperous family, where parents and friends considers VIT VELLURE( where seats upto 2017 are reserved by industrialists for their children) or MANIPAL ( again having a good donation quota) are better over other NITs and good state govenment engineering colleges, because they have got good gym, separate 5 star accomodation for their children and all dat.....but for your kind knowledge i would like to inform you, like 80 percent of population of resides in villeges, similarly 80 percent of top india's engineering students recides in these IITs,NITs and other reputed state engineering colleges...........industrialists and people like you can create infrastructure, facilities and all that but not "excellance"...... i think above will answer you...................
and one thing more
VIT VELLURE,MANIPAL AND ALL OF SAME KIND:::TOTALLY FOOLISH ENTRANCE EXAM,MOST OF THE SEATS ARE ON DONATION
.....
"Can you name any government engineering college(IIT/NIT/IIIT/IISc/IISER/NISER/CENTRAL UNIVERSITIES/STATE GOVT. ENGINEERING COLLEGES) where you can get a seat by donation".......................
And don't mention BITS PILANI over here,i and we all already have accepted its reputation and included in list of top 30.
one thing more i know it neither you nor outlook will like my comments, becoz both of you are agents of private colleges..
by the way which college you belongs????

CHECK OUT INSTITUTES OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE
http://www.education.nic.in/IHL/INSTITUTESNATIONALIMPORTANCE.pdf
Dear AKASH,OUTLOOK AND MANY MORE
please refer to the new rankings, although the ranking which are posted by me are far more better than OUTLOOK's rankings.IIT GUWAHATI,and all other NITs are "INSTITUTES OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE" under IIT ACT-1963 and NIT ACT-2007 respectively.they are the supreme institutions of engineering and technology as described in these acts.please go through these acts and then comment on status of NITs,what they are. and i think you are agent of OUTLOOK or some private engineering college.tell OUTLOOK people that IIT GUWAHATI and other NITs(which are not mentioned in the list of 75) are not this much of bad(as mentioned by you),that they couldn't find their places in top 75. and colleges like ITM GURGAON,GURU NANAK DEV LUDHIANA,CHAITANYA HYDERABAD,MIT PUNE,HINDUSTAN INSTITUTE,BANNARI AMMAN and many more,,most of them are established 10 or 15 years before are in top 75.most of the people of india (leave international repute) donot even know about these colleges.......................................
and one thing more because of you mentioned about NBA...I would like to inform you for your kind convenience and knowledge that all IITs,NITs,IIITs are provided 'A' grade(which is supreme ranking) by NBA..and if you want i can provide you documents as well....
and sorry for forgetting BITS PILANI in 1st list,it is one of the great and lead institute of technology in country.but rest of the colleges which you mentioned like MANIPAL,VIT VELLURE,MIT PUNE,RK COLLEGE OF ENGG. do not deserve in top 50 at this moment,i am not underestimating them by saying this, they are most welcome if they want to compete with IITs,NITs,IIITs..but come through the proper channels like IIT-JEE,AIEEE,BITSAT......the kind of option they have choosen that, lets give the money to OUTLOOK or other magazine and get published their names is not the way of competition............
STILL IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBT YOU CAN DIRECTLY CONTACT ME +91-9469674148
Do not criticise outlook without valid reasons. They have done their research to come up with the rankings. I have visited lot of engineering colleges and my views are as follows-
1) Generally any institute whether Governement or private is accrediated by NBA when it reviews the college and finds it suitable.
2) NIT in the north eastern states, Raipur, Kurushetra,Hamirpur, Patna etc. are not better than Manipal, BITS, MIT-Pune, RV College of Engineering.
Mr. Priyank,
Although you have posted your rankings there are major flaws in your ranking-
It is important to note that whether a college is private or government, it has to be recognised by AICTE. The self managed colleges are in fact affliated to the universities. Most of the good ones (BITS, VIT-Vellore, Manipal, MIT-Pune, DAIICT etc.) are accrediated by NBA. This is the highest certification body in India for Engineering education. NIT is a eyewash, because all NIT's are not good. Some of the Government colleges do not have proper infrastructure, hostels etc. In Bangalore for example, people go to RV College of Engineering, which is private but the no.1 in Bangalore.
In your list you have forgotten BITS Pillani or what. Outlook has done a good job in the rankings.IIPM is not recognised by AICTE, but the private engineering colleges are AICTE recognised, NBA accrediated and has got excellent facilities etc.
LIST OF TOP 40 ENGINEERING INSTITUTIONS OF INDIA
1) IIT Bombay 2) IIT-Delhi 3)IIT-Kharagpur 4)IIT-Madras 5) IIT-kanpur 6)IIT-Guwahati 7)ISM-Dhanbad 8)IIT-BHU 9)IIT-ROORKEE 10)NIT TRICHY 11)NIT ALLAHBAD 12)NIT-Surathkal 13)NIT-Warragal 14)Anna University 15)DTU 16) Jadavpur University 17)NSIT-DelhiPSG Coimbator 18)NIT CALICUT 19)NIT JAIPUR 20)NIT DURGAPUR 21)NIT JAMSHEDPUR 22)NIT BHOPAL 23)BIT MESRA 24)NIT ROURKELA 25)NIT NAGPUR 26)NIT SURAT 27)NIT SRINAGAR 28)NIT HAMIRPUR 29)NIT JALANDHAR 30)NIT SILCHAR 31)NIT KURUKSETRA 32)BENGAL COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING SHIBPUR 33)NRISST ARUNACHAL PRADESH 34)NIT AGARTALA 35)NIT PATNA 36)NIT RAIPUR 37)Thapar University 38)PSG Coimbator 39)DAIICT-Gandhinagar 40)PEC Chandigarh
Dear Outlook,
The ranking shown are completely foolish, and is not compiled properly it does not includes many key institutes like IIT GUWAHATI,NIT SILCHAR,NIT AGARTALA,NIT BHOPAL,NIT DURGAPUR,NIT JAMSHEDPUR,NIT SRINAGAR,NIT ROURKELA,NIT CALICUT,NIT JALANDHAR,NRIST ARUNACHAL PRADESH and many more...just come physically to the institutions and rate them....the private universitites like ITM Gurgaon or colleges like Bannari amman or MIT PUNE,not lies any where in frontof these top central institutions like IITs,NITs,IIITs or even state owned government engineering colleges....some time, visit to these private institutions(leave BITS Pilani like private institutions) and meet the students, watch their basic infrastructures, check their faculty qualifications..you will certainly come to know, where these colleges lies.....i know you all people know all about this, but the heavy money from these privately owned institutions at the time of ranking stops you from publishing the correct and effective results......one of the very famous and well know example of this is publicity of IIPM by TIME'S group,it looks always a joke "Dare to think beyond IIMs,come to IIPM" hahahahhahaha.......and foolish people follows you............
Mr. Bansal, what does NAAC/NBA think of ISM is more important than your personal biased opinion. The colleges I have listed above ISm in the list are better in terms of overall criteria. Entrance i not the only criteria.
example--- 1 gets 4000 rank in AIEEE, and gets electronics in NIT Surathkal or NIT Calicut, and he also gets in waiting list of IIT and gets ISM in mining machinery, he will definitely choose electronics branch in NIT. ISM was good for mining in 50's, 60's but priorities of students have changed.
Mr. Bansal,
We are talking here of the current rankings. ISM did not have IIT entrance from the beginning. How many ppl will choose ISM if they r offered an IIT, good NIT's or colleges like BITS Pillani is well known. Only admitting students from last rankers of IIT's is not enough to be considered a great college.
Entrance test shld not be the only criteria for rankings. Suppose someone gets BITS Pillani or NIT Surathkal in Electronics branch, will he still choose mining in ism depends on the aptitude of the candidate.
Akash.
how can you decide the rank of ism dhanbad so below?? do you know that the admission in ISM is through IIT-JEE it is considered the 2nd best institute of mining in whole world and first in asia, do you know that it is considered the 2nd best college in Electronis in east india after IIT-KGP, and above of IIT-G. How can you plance any NIT above an IIT-JEE institute?? And seeing its contribution Govt. of Jharkhand has passed a bill to convert ISM into an IIT, and soon MHRD is going to implement that.
"A little knowledge is very dangerous thing"

Considering my research on the Engineering college rankings let me proceed with the list you have provided and modify it a bit.
----Top 10- I do not touch, keep it the same and agree that only little bit of up and down
--- Top 20- Problems with the high rank of ISMU, IIIT Allahabad, IIIT Hyderabad and JNTUH College of Engineering.
----Top 30- Manipal, NIT Hamirpur, BIT Sindri, Hartcourt Butler and Nirma is shocking
Let me rearrange your list only, so that next time you can check it and modify.
Guys read the methodolgy first and then comment.
hey guys if u need admission anywhere in india for engineering, medical, dental, arts, commerce, or anything then do contact over here: kunutherockstar@yahoo.co.in.
Sorry its not Aakash its ARPIT..........
@Aakash - I personally prefer better college, And i would like to prefer it till the last branch option for me is CIVIL. It all depends on you - how u take it- .....
1 more thing if i may ask......... any answer to the ques.- better colg or better branch????????
Thanx shubh and akash...........well as by now i have made BITS as my final option .......just hope that the merit list doesnt do a goof up............
Arpit,
BIT mesra is a good college and if you get a good branch go for it. Do not get puzzled and roam around looking for other options.
Wherever you go, you have to study well and also develop other capabilities like delivering presentations, technical report writing and other soft skills. Academics is only a part of how you fare in the industry but not the ultimate factor....
@ARPIT: - Congrats for your results.. I have completed my first year in BIT Mesra in Mechanical Branch. My AIR was - 6439 in AIEEE, IIT -7979 and BITS Score was - 311. Your result is better than me - no doubt - i would like to tell the ranking given here is not at all wrong. Its all my personel experience. With all - the college has maintained its reputation and maintained its placements. You will have ur own choice - MAKE IT - AFTER ALL TOP COLLEGES ARE WAITING FOR U. HOWEVER ALL DEPENDS ON U.. Well i cant tell u that take this college or that as it totally depend u.....
My friend BIT mesra is BIRLA...............http://www.bitmesra.ac.in/ Open it and see......................n if u say any oder gud colg in north den which 1 do you suggest?????????????????
@arpit.....I will not suggest you BIT Mesra......btw its not Birla institute of tech. rather Birsa Institute of tech......you should opt other good cllg in north india
well thanx mr shailesh n mr akash. A few people advised me BIT mesra as an option in AIEEE given that i cant go to south due to family reasons, well is that the best option in AIEEE in north india???? and i guess if its so den goin to BIT instead of BITS is stupidity, right?????????
well course fee is a concern for me.........does that make for a strong enough reason to drop BITS and opt for any one from AIEEE????????? Or the fee at BITS is justified??????????? As for the branch my choice is EEE.
-- You will get bank education loan directly in PILANI/HYDERABAD/GOA campuses if u r having problem to pay fees and after first year and there are merit cum need scholarships which you can avail very easily with little decent performance in college. So fees cannot be criteria for you to opt out of bits to NIT's. On previous cut-off's u can get any branch in BITS except Comp.Sci@Pilani.So choose yourself
there are few questions about the procedure of ranking....will the editor like to answer these??
Where is IIT-G??
Before pointing for infra, do you visit the particular campus??
For all the colleges getting admitted through IIT-JEE,how can you provide different points??
What is the basis for placement ranking salary or no. of students placed??
Mohit Bansal
ISM,Dhanbad
Well i guess all of u thr have gr8 insights on this issue. Can anyone suggest me what to opt...........i got 344/450 in BITSAT and 3945 AIR in AIEEE which colg should be my choice?????????
---Arpit, you have done quite well in the Entrance exams. first you have to decide you want to study which branch.....next you have to decide which college you want to study. I think except IIT Mumbai, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Delhi, all colleges are in the 2nd tier.....ie. nothing to choose between top 50 colleges, as all r good in something or the other. Please also think about the location as studying in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata has its own advantage.
----1st choice for you should be BITS Pillani....
Top 10 engg colleges (self managed/govt aided) according to me--> 1) BITS-Pilani 2)Thapar-Patiala 3)PSG Coimbatore 4) BITS-Mesra 5) VJTI Mumbai 6) MIT-Pune 7)RVCE Bangalore 8) DAIICT-Gandhinagar 9) Manipal Inst of Tech 10) VIT-Vellore
There has been lot of discussion on BITS Pillani and IT-BHU. Both are good colleges. Let me give some unbiased opinion. Overall BITS Pillani is better than IT-BHU. Factors are academic excellence, infrastructure, student perception, HR perception etc.
perhaps you guys should have a look at the methodology they have used at http://www.outlookindia.com/article.aspx?277253 before you attack them left right and centre
@Everyone:- I am not against and not in support of anything written by you all. And i am not too much knowledgeable as you all are. I have completed my 1st year and my AIR in AIEEE was 6439, iit-jee was- 7979, VIT- 3702, BITSAT score was - 311. And I am pursuing B.E. in Mech from BIT Mesra. As i know the posts here would be from more knowledgeable ones, I am not here to put up a fight that this college or that is better. I just want to say why to fight for it , as we study in good colleges, we know that top colleges in India have the best placements, and the fight for the rank is between them. Everything is not Packages & Placements ( as it depends on the students there - who performs better gets better package - as we all know that )- that colleges is rated on. It depends on the Student Quality. Dont TRUST on any rankings. Just TRUST what we know is that - A student who studies in GOOD COLLEGE will have a good life ahead. The tag of good colleges is important. Well IIT - the best ( mainly the old ones), BITS Pilani, BIT Mesra, NIT's - Trichy, Warangal, Calicut, Allahabad, Surathkal, Jaipur;, DTU, ISM Dhanbad, IT-BHU, NSIT, IIIT - H and IIIT -A, Thapar, PEC, Upcomings are - DAIICT, LNMIIT; ( NAMES NOT ACCORDING TO RANK ); What i think is if a student studies in one of these colleges has a good life ( adding if they perform well in the college as well - applies to ME as well ); As getting through to these colleges is really tough. Sorry if i missed some good names as when i gave engineering entrance exams i gave only 4 - iit-jee, aieee, bits-pilani and vit.
The rankings provided by OUTLOOK is more or less correct - i think so, and the colleges whose names are not listed - they had not taken part in this survey.... And FEW of u i had to say with due respect that please dont comment on any college without knowing full info;
first of all, how can nit trichy get more points for selection procedure than ism dhanbad. to get into ism dhanbad yo need to crack iit-jee for gods sake. and as far as industrial interface is concerned, it has the largest alumni base which is not surprising for a college which started in 1926. its industrial relations are as good, if not better , as any of the iits. and it has a track record of 100% placement with an average package of more than 6 lacs p.a..these rankings should not atleast show the parameters and embarass themselves.
@to all of u guys who said "BITSAT is comparable to IIT-JEE"
hey guys, i got a score of 347 marks in BITSAT and the level of questions asked in it is comparable to state exams and the interesting fact is that the student have to score very high marks(in state exam too) in order to get good college,so guys acc. to ur point these "bloody state exams are also comparable to IIT-JEE" and if u really think it then please just F*** OFF.....
u must be kidding i am from chattisgarh n for the fact the best college here is nit raipur followed by the Bhilai Institute of Technology then folled by rungta college. but u claim rungta to be above the given two. now this is what i called paid journalism as told by your 15th anniversary magazine....
@ Shardool : chill buddy :D
@ Piyush : i told you its the adrenaline XD and i was stupid too..:P
Guys lets bury all this fuss now and here itself :D i wont come back to this page :D
@shardool
Dude.. I thought i would clarify some things here, but gauging your thought-processes and your understanding, YOU ARE NOT WORTH IT.
@Sabby
I agree with you mate... All the institutes which take in students through the same exam should have the same marks. But the same post that made you criticize me, was meant only to show the methodology that has been adopted for giving the points of SELECTION PROCEDURE... I suggest you go through that again, and save us the trouble of clearing it again and again.
@all who have enjoyed this war of words between IT-BHU & BITS
It was not a war of words. Just stupid people trying to put their own colleges up! And yes, I was stupid too.
Au Revoir
Answer the following question straight and we conclude the ranking is perfect :P :
Q:All IITs should have been given same points for selection process but why is IIT-Kh has 195 points and IT-BHU has 207 points?
I would like to share a thing here that all BITS campuses placements together have been combined here.Pilani alone has quite high placements.
@ Aditya:You can call it IIT-BHU :P makes a mouth full :D
@Shardool:
Dude you are emphasising that you left a seat for the BHU guys. But you are not considering the vice-versa. Some of the BITS students might have left IIT-BHU to join BITS but the bitter fact is almost all( and if not all,in a no. far more greater than you guys) of the BHU guys have left BITS to join IIT-BHU. Everyone knows about the extent of sliding that takes place in BITS. I myself have qualified both the exams like you.In the first counselling of BITS i was getting Civil Engg. and after a few more counsellings, I was being offered CS.So, you can imagine in what quantity people reject BITS.The only problem that seems to be with u is that you are not able to accept the fact that you made a wrong decision while choosing the college.May be you never thought that it will become an IIT and now that it has become, you are frustrated because you woked hard for full 2 or 3 yrs to get the "IITian" tag but you couldnt. Its really below the students like you, of such an eminent institute as BITS,to malign other institutes.
What ever any one has to say The truth is that IIT BHU(not it bhu any more) is much on far with any of the IITs in india. It is just given the given ranking ie 6th or 7th or 8th only coz it doesn't possess IIT frame. Now the time has come to an end.By August it will be done and you will only see IIT-BHU merging through and rushing forward literally with out any turn backs.
IIT-BHU is going to LEAD FROM THE FRONT in the future.
@ whoever criticized me on talking on the issue
FOR UR KIND INFORMATION I have given BOTH JEE AND BITSAT and yeah i qualified both of them and for all bhu guys i left a seat for you there thats y u r there
The acceptance percntage is vry low in BITSAT in comparison to that of jee and yeah the cutoff for bitsat percentage wise is way higher then jee and as sumone pointed out bitsat has nvr faced a leak glitch unlyk jee so dont bullshit me abt BITSAT being a worthless xam.
IF u ppl had the brains to comprehend wat i meant in my comment then u would see i had criticized the magazine for inaccurate ranking with BHU being the biggest glitch i do not deny the fact that IIT's are still the widely wanted colleges among the aspiring engineers. IF ppl of ur comprehending skills are studying in these premier institutes then i m vry srry abt the future of the country
# 44 >> JASPREET >>where is IIT GUWAHATI .......????
>> A very good question. Should we not pose this question to our honourable and honest Prime Minister, Shri Manmohan Singh?
The question to be posed to MMS is "where is GUWAHATI?"
JASPREET >>where is IIT GUWAHATI .......????
A very good question. Should we not pose this question to our honourable and honest Prime Minister, Shri Manmohan Singh?
Manmohan Singh, is a academician, learned economist and above all swore that he is a resident of Guwahati and he is ruling our nation for last 7 years and he should surely know better. And being a resident of Guwahati for so many years, you could also pose this question in Assamese Language. And his reply in Assamese should stun you and demonstrate his love and affection for Guwahati and Assam !!!
Mr Dibyajyoti,
ISM was admitting students based on their own entrance which was easier than JEE. ISM was a normal college in a normal location (not teir1 or tier 2 cities). Therfore, u got ppl interested mostly in mining/mining machinery and few for petroleum. It was not better than REC's and other engineering colleges. Then they decided to take students thru IIT JEE. That does not mean that overnight it became an IIT. To get into top IIT's u need good IIT rank.
Tell me frankly if u have to choose between VJTI Mumbai, Thapar Punjab , NIT Warrangal, NIT Surathkal for a computer/electronics branch and computer from ISM what u will choose. People who qualified JEE and could not get into top IIT's left seat in ISM to join other top ranked colleges.
Its realy nice to see ranking of several other professional colleges apart from Engineering and Medical colleges. However, one major sector of our country is Agriculture wherein 60% of the workforce is engaged and there is a professional course on agriculture which is being taught by 45 agricultural universities and is being neglected from ranking for many years.
Why Outlook and other magazines neglect this course and universities from ranking? We can very well understand the politicians and urban people neglecting the farmers and very important course like agriculture. A reputed magazine like outlook which understands the country very well has been doing this blunder for several years is shocking. Whether the magazine assumes that the prospective students for agriculture course don't need such information on ranking or it assumes that all these colleges are excellent?
The colleges of fashion technology, hotel management, social work etc., are all being ranked. Why do guys just ignore agriculture courses and colleges? Don't these people study at urban centric courses and colleges need good food? Unless good quality education is provided in agriculture, how the development that is happening in India is sustaintable?
I think ranking of agricultural universities helps them to be market oriented and compete with each other and be successful. Outlook magazine should take note of this and take up such ranking in future.
@Sabby..
same here dude.
I know the feeling.
:)
@ Piyush
Everyone knows that our colleges(IITs and BITS and IIIT-H) are the best a student can get in india and how much we had to work hard to get here.Any ranking on net cannot negate this fact.Shuffles happen consistently and ultimately its not your college's rank that matters, its your own hard work :)
I quit here :)
Piyush sorry buddy...it was just adrenaline rush that made me type those sentences,no one can hear criticism about his or her college, whatsoever its rank might be :D
I am so thankful to you. Had it not been for you, I would have never been able to study engineering. Probably you wrote my JEE paper too. And yes, I was just wondering that how would the "100s who have been offered the same branch as me" in IT-BHU would fit in the batches meant for 40 students a year. Whatever, thank you so much for showing me your generosity. I don't know where I would have been had you not joined BITS.
Anyway, dude... it seems you have a habit of reading half the comment. I would suggest you to please follow up the comments properly, know about what I have said, and then comment. If you read my first comment, probably then you'll understand what I think about BITS and IITs...
So, please, freshen up your knowledge, and come back.
The ranking is little bit shocking. No place is given to VIT, Vellore. it must have been considered under 40. And on what basis have you placed manipal so above in this list. VIT deserves place above manipal, rvce as well as mit, pune..
this ranking is really dissapointing.
Where is IIT Guwahati....is it closed or they forgot it to add in the list??
Does it not fall under top 75 colleges?
coming to colleges in Maharashtra (Mumbai/Pune)---
compared to southern states and except IIT's and BITS Pillani, getting admission in top colleges in Mumbai and Pune is very tough- so not even a single college in Top 20 is really shocking-
Now let me give a bit of details about it-
In Mumbai-
VJTI, ICT are great colleges.
In Pune- COE Pune and MIT Pune are great colleges
they are in the 2nd league after only the IIT's and BITS Pillani.
Ranking some colleges like MIT Manipal/JNTUH and NIT Hamirpur etc. ahead of them is shocking.
few clarifications are required--
1) when you say MIT College of Engineering Pune and BMS Institute of Technology, are you talking about top notch colleges MIT-Pune and BMS College of Engineering Bangalore. The MIT College of Engg is a sister concern of the main MIT-Pune and BMS Institute of Technology is a sister concern of BMS College of Engineering. The original MIT-Pune and BMS College of Engineering was needed to be ranked please.
We have so much faith in Outlook, please correct these mistakes.
2) How is Nirma University ranked so high?
Top 10 engg colleges (self managed/govt aided) according to me-->
1) BITS-Pilani 2)Thapar-Patiala 3)PSG Coimbatore 4) BITS-Mesra 5) VJTI Mumbai 6) MIT-Pune 7)RVCE Bangalore 8) DAIICT-Gandhinagar 9) Manipal Inst of Tech 10) VIT-Vellore
Let me give some independent views here-
Both BITS Pilani and IT-BHU are good institutes but my view is the following-
Top 10 should be as follows-
1) IIT-Mumbai
2) IIT-Delhi
3)IIT-Kharagpur
4)IIT-Chennai
5) BITS-Pilani
6)IIT-Kanpur
7)IIT-Roorkee
8)IT-BHU
9)Delhi Technological University
10)COE, Anna Univ Guindy
@ PIYUSH (Varanasi)
Dude,I didnt want to mention it here, but your detailed explanation on why IT-BHU is better than BITS left me no choice :P
Hundreds including me in BITS were offered the branch that you are currently pursuing at IT-BHU.Thank Us because "You are there because we are here" :D
kthnxbai
First of all guys chill...all these rankings are totally useless and misleading...even i can have my Bull Shit College Of Engineering in top 20 if I have some big notes in my pocket.
Regarding IIT vs BITS,no doubt IITs have better placements but thats mainly due to good locations.Obviously its a pain to reach pilani.companies would always prefer to go to powai or delhi.
Secondly IITs have 'government ka hath' over their heads.sarkar is providing best facilities and funds at the cost of reservation.BITS has no reservation and obviously they are not govt funded.
Thirdly, many research labs have been established in BITS in the past 1 yr and also many of the buildings have been renovated.and i can assure that the new rooms are much better than rooms in IITs.so thats the main reason why BITS is ranked so high in infrastructure.A new underground lab/admin section is also being constructed.
Comparing JEE and BITSAT is a vague thing to do.even ppl who are quite sure of a selection in JEE give BITSAT.and BITSAT has no history of leaks or technical bugs contrary to this yrs JEE poor show.
Many of my friends in IITs are all getting bored this summer because they have nothing to do.Evry bitsian has to do a 2 mnths summer training after 2nd yr and 6 mnths internship in 4th yr.i m quite sure IITs dnt have the first kind of training.hence the industrial linkage thing is justified.
Regarding the personality development thing, all the fests, messes, sponsorships, curriculum amendments(in collaboration with researchers) are managed by students themselves.obviously they become good managers by the time they graduate.
I am not against any particular IIT or college coz i myself wanted to be a part of some IIT few years back.I still respect IITs as the premier institutes along with BITS.obviously if you find some nirma or 'i don't know which' college on the top 10 list its better you dnt pick that copy...
@everyone who is trying to hit on shardool rastogi...chill
he has written and cracked both JEE, and BITSAT, obviously then AIEEE too
and he is doing his bachelor's from one of the so called "top 10 colleges", which dosen't need any advertising,
@BHU guys, we all know your college is good, you need not advertise it here
@anand prakash if BITSAT is so fucking easy, y the hell did u get screwed in it
@chitra, its not that they want different kind of students, they all(IITs, BITS, NITs, and other good ones)want the so called "cream"....but i guess logical reasoning part of BITSAT shows that they actually want people with higher IQ's.
@all itsjust a matter of a few years that this "IITian tag" matters, then what matters is how much u r earning(which sometimesis different from package...if u know what package means)
@ those in some good college...dare not reply saying you are someone who could not get into such a college or some shit like that....coz i could well be one of your seniors
PS: dont waste your precious mind thinking about what Ex-IITian means
No Doubt its the IITs and BITS that were expected in top 10 list. But there are many misconceptions about BITSAT in minds of students and those who give rankings.
I will start pointwise about things that i dont like about this ranking:
1)If its the same JEE that gets you into IITs,IT-BHU,ISM ,then why are they given different points??
2)Call BITSAT easy, yes I agree. But you have to score around 320/450(3 hours) to get into Pilani whereas 220/480(6 hours) to get into IITs.Thats easy questions that test your knowledge including english, logical reasoning.Dont start generating hard feeling about me,I had both JEE and BITSAT cleared.
IT-BHU has been given 16 more marks than BITS just for admission procedure and it ended 3 points higher in ranking.(just raised a point..no hard feelings..I have many friends in IT-BHU)
3)Infrastructure of BITS is not as good as it seems, its been overrated..but its academic excellence is underrated.
4)80% Pilani guys are JEE cleared who chose BITS due to better branch...SC/ST/Handicap/hundreds of other reservations in IITs cannot be neglected,BITS offers seat only to deserving students.
I respect IITs and BITS as leading ten institutes of India and their ranks shuffle up every year leading to war of words between their students.
I agree with Aditya. There is a fundamental difference in the kind of students BITS and IITs want. BITS aims at a mixture of students from all parts of the country and not just the very high IQ or the total hardworking ones and people from top coaching institutes. It also gives a chance to people with no access to coaching centres but have good concepts. So they test only concepts and there is also an english and reasoning section. Also that is the reason they used to take State boards as a criteria before 5-6 years to pick bright students from all states. But as boards quality diluted and there was differnce in levels of CBSE and other boards, they had to come up with an all India test. As the top students only are selected and with no reservations, It gives BITS a good student population and I personally think its a very good approach.
totally agree with aditya entrance exam tougness should'nt be the parameter.if u r taking this as a papameter i am sorry for u guys...coz world world best engineering colleges don't have such hectic and tough entrance like indian colleges had .
i don't know the methodology here but c,mon VIT and SRM clearly deserves to be in the list.and to within top 50 atleast.although they have high fees for b.tech but tell u they are way better than the colleges after 35 in everything.
@Anand Prakash
You are sadly mistaken. An exam cannot be considered "best" just because it is tougher. JEE may have questions which use multiple theories to solve one question, but this does not make it the best. Sometimes, the questions are pretty redundant and also end up being wrong. BITSAT may have "easier" questions but they cover up all the concepts. I think an exam is given to test if you are clear on all concepts, is it not?
Also the competition is the same. Thus, if you think BITSAT is easier, it also means that the cutoff is much higher. Much, much higher infact. So please do not say that BITSAT is not comparable to IITJEE.
I have given both these exams this year and I have qualified in both. I do not think BITSAT is any way "easier" that IITJEE in terms of selection.
thats completly insane. Manipal comes before PEC or UIET ? r u kidding me?
I dont know what these rankings mean..its simple first IITs and then pick up the AIEEE cut offs for other colleges..and you will get the real rankings .....AIEEE cut offs will give the clear idea how people of india rank these colleges...
Sorry to intervene MR.Akash, you must not be aware about the fact that ISM students are IIT-JEE qualified. So putting the NITs up in the ranks sounds absurd.Anyways I would also sincerely request the surveyor to go through the norms on the basis of wich students of ISM are selected and then decide the points.Apart, in placements and personality development ISM also deserves a better standing.
P.S. I do not mean to Demean BITS Pilani in any way. It is a very respectable institute and so it shall remain. It is only to clarify it to some people who don't understand that "ranks" do not make an institute good or bad..
where is IIT GUWAHATI .......????
@Shardool Rastogi
You Seem to me like a Person on whose head All of us are enjoying Putting up an Apple & Throwing Knives One By One.
You also Seem to me like a person who has got nothing to do in his life but to Comment on Things You can't even Change and which are not even supposed to be Changed..
Let me Tell you Rastogi Ji ,IT-BHU is not "Dying" or "Requesting" or "Craving" for IIT status, infact it is "Demanding" for IIT Status coz that's what it deserves if not more than that.
IT-BHU is an Integral part of IIT Family And soon It is going to Become an IIT and No Shardool or any Person Like you (Who Considers These Kind of Rankings The Sole Criterion For Judgement of Quality of colleges) Can Change it.
Even Without an IIT Tag It Has Managed to Grab almost The Top Ranks in Every Category of Benchmark. Imagine What would Happen If it Becomes IIT,which actually it is going to Become very soon.
It's Proposal for it's Conversion into IIT Has Already Been Passed By Lok Sabha & Tabled in Rajya Sabha. Where Were You When All these Things were happening huh!! ?? Ohh Must Be very Difficult to Recollect Where Were you.. !! Don worry i'll Tell you.. You were Sitting on the same Chair in front of the Same Computer Posting Same Kind of "DOESN'T EVEN MATTER COMMENTS" ...
Secondly, As Far as The Reservation Is Concerned Every IIT Follows Government Norms & Regulations & So Does IT-BHU. If you are still against Reservations, Let me ask you one more Time where were you when the Govt. Implimented This System. Do you Remember where were you.?? It "DOESN'T EVEN MATTER" where were you...Because Guys Like you Always follows The Crowd & Never Tries to raise Their Voices against anything. Only Thing you can do is to raise your Fingers And That too to Type These Kind of Comments Which nobody gonna appreciate.
Ohhh & if you are still trying to Remember & Have forgotten where were you when Govt. Implimented Reservation, Don't atleast forget To Read The Aforesaid Stuff again. :)
Nishat K Singh
Mr. Shardool Rastogi..
I found just the thing you wanted to know... here is the methodology adopted for the Selection Procedure by Outlook...
http://images.outlookindia.com/Uploads/outlookindia/2011/20110627/page_44_1_20110627.jpg
Now... to clear your doubts...i'll do that point-wise:
1. Type of entrance exam :
IT-BHU -- JEE
BITS Pilani -- BITSAT
2. No. of Applications to selected Ratio:
IT-BHU - this year 4.85 lakh people appeared for JEE
BITS P - i don't know.
3. Fee Structure:
IT-BHU - It has one of the lowest fees in the country. Mine is14,115 INR per semester.
BITS P - I don't know but it definitely is more than IT-BHU.
4. Age/ Establishment of the Institute:
IT-BHU - Established in 1919. One of first engineering colleges of the country.
BITS Pilani - Became a deemed University in 1964.
So, I guess, your problems should be considered solved. If you know what I mean!!! :P
Please recheck your procedures again. Look at the facilities at ICT Mumbai, Thapar, NIT Warrangal, NIT Surathkal before ranking colleges like ISM and BIT Mesra above them.
The rankings of outlook again have some inherent problems. MDRA publishes a list and does not reply to any queries after the list. The list does not look OK. Let me put some point of view on the problems-
1) JNTUH College of Engineering at looks too high.
2) Manipal at 21 and better than PEC Univ of Tech, COE Pune, Thapar, ICT Mumbai (formerly UDCT), VJTI Mumbai, RV College of Engg is too much to digest.
3)Madras Institute of Tech at 35 is not correct.
4) Did BMS college of Engg Bangalore participate?
5)PESIT better than RV COE, r u ppl serious.
6)SSN, SGSITS, Mepco Schlenk, PES college, Chaitnaya Bharathi, Thiagarajar higher than DJ Sangvi, MIT COE Pune and BMS Institue is really shocking
@Mr. Shardool Rastogi
I am amazed at your ignorance. Do you even know the meaning of the words "selection procedure"? As correctly pointed out by Mr. Anand Prakash in the above comment, the selection to all the IITs, IT-BHU and ISMU Dhanbad is made through the same IIT-JEE, and this includes IIT-B too. So, if outlook has given different marks for the selection procedure, then probably they have considered some other fine points too which they have unfortunately and sadly, not disclosed.
I will not comment on the kind of exam BITSAT is. BITS Pilani is also a prestigious institute in the country, but it has a totally different program than any of the IITs. And since it is private, it is not binding on Pilani for reservations. But, government institutes, and that includes all the IITs, IT-BHU and ISMU, have to follow the rules of the country, and hence the reservation. And for your information, even the candidates who come through reservation are suited, and JEE qualified candidates.
As for the things you have said about IT-BHU, as a student of the esteemed Institute, I feel my duty to make some things clear to you. The only reason that we want the IIT status is because it will help the institute in generating better reserach, and have better facilities. It will help us with the administration, since it will be autonomous then, and the infrastructure too will improve drastically.
And clearly, since you have never been to any of the top institutes (it is very clear you are no one but just another person who wants to comment on anything and everything), you will not understand the difference. Had you been a student of one of the institutes, you would have known that these rankings are least of our concerns.
For all the others who are astonished to not find their universities in the study, it simply indicates that your institutes did not PARTICIPATE in the survey. You will also find that IIT Guwahati is not included in the list, as well as the West Bengal Colleges. It simply means that the Outlook team did not go to these institutes for the study. So, please don't be alarmed of the results.
I hope this clarifies most of the queries, and generates lot more.
For all those who want to know more about IT-BHU and the methodology adopted by Outlook, please visit http://www.itbhu.ac.in/
Thanks,
Piyush Part-V, Metallurgical Engineering IT-BHU
@Mr Shardul Rastogi
Students to all IITs, IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad are admitted through a common entrance test called Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Exam or in short IITJEE. These colleges cannot be given different points for selection procedure when they have the same entrance test. Are you sure you know what selection procedure means?
Also students to BITS Pilani are admitted through a very easy test called BITSAT which is nothing compared to IITJEE. So BITSAT will never ever be ranked above IITJEE . Have you given BITSAT and IITJEE. IF you have given then you would know. Please gather knowledge before commenting.
As far as reservation is concerned then it is a policy of the govt of India to have reservation for backward sections of society. Even IITs such as bombay, kharagpur, delhi etc have reservation. It is not the institute's fault.
The biggest joke in these rankings is that Delhi Tech. University has been ranked above IIT Delhi in placements. If someone looks at the difference in salaries of DTU and IITD graduates then they'd laugh!
Selection Process 2nd BEST FOR IT-BHU are you kidding me.......... The people there keep crying about getting an IIT status for like centuries now and you consider their selection process better than so many colleges like IIT-B, BITS Pilani which for your knowledge having no reservation should be placed way above IT-BHU at least
sorry , i meant " Durgapur"
also , no NIT Durgaur !
totally bad ranking.there is no mention of nit allahabad, nit kurukshetra and nit jaipur
This list is incomplete without RV college of Engineering Bangalore. It is one of the best in the country on all accepted parameters. How come the survey has missed such a college.Hence the survey is certainly partial and imbalanced.
I don't know what criteria they followed but it does not make any sense. how can you rank JNTU Hyderabad before Osmania Hyderabad. and KL Guntur before Andhra University and SVU. there is no logic and no explanation. unless they are monumentally stupid or totally biased they can arrive at this list.
Debotosh, you are right. Jadavpur Univ engineering graduates have excelled all over the world. This seems to be fake tabled survey. ICT, Mumbai at 28th. Surely you are not poking Vinod Mehta. ICT, Mumbai has produced some world class chemical engineers from India itself. Prof MM Sharma FRS , Prof RA Mashelkar FRS and many more .Mukesh Ambani is an undergraduate of ICT , Mumbai.
Here is the web site of ICT Mumbai

Just eating chole bature in Delhi is not enough. Read Read Read Read well
Looks as if Outlook has some special grudge against West Bengal ;might be that the surveyors had some sweet nostalgia of the Left regime !
This ranking methodology is mind-boggling , irrational and heavily partisan ! How can you exclude Faculty of Engineering and Technology , Jadavpore (West Bengal) from the list? Where is Bengal Engineering and Science University(BESU), Shibpore , which is going to get a national status very soon ? Either 'Outlook' has conducted this survey with a prejudiced mentality or there is something definitely fishy in the survey results ! One cannot understand the basis on which so many 3rd grade private colleges have made it to the list and the aforesaid institutions have been coldly rejected ! Surely , after seeing this survey , my views on Outlook have changed drastically !
All the private college chairmen who pid Mr Vinod Mehta 100 crore rupees got listed here???
Or is there a different criteria for this list? If there is... it surely has not been told....
Out of 75 engineering colleges ranked , 30 are government institutions, 12 of which are IITs & NITS. In infrastructure front the private colleges fares poorly compared to government colleges. It is not clear from the methodology of ranking whether academia & labortory facilities constitute infrastructure. Curricllum is one more important parameter. What is the quality & quantity of research projects in these private institutions? How many of their their pass-outs qualify for research assignments?
