Tribute to Mr. K.Subramanyam

With the demise of K.Subramanyam, India has lost an eminent person on national security and foreign policy who played a key role in shaping the government and public thinking on key issues and helped draft India’s nuclear doctrine. He will also be remembered for his refusal to accept Padma Bhushan in 1999 stating that bureaucrats should not accept awards.

Country also has lost the most respected voice in India on global security affairs and tirelessly championed the India-US nuclear deal when it was bogged down in domestic political debates. . His commentaries in newspapers and interviews on television will continue to inspire strategic thinkers on important national and international issues impinging on national security.

I remember the first time I read one of his articles in "The Hindu".It was on minimum nuclear deterrence and had some high level cost estimates for India to build and maintain a minimum nuclear stockpile for attaining deterrence. I have had the opportunity to read many of his columns over these years and every one of those columns undoubtedly conveyed that he was an astute strategist.

Today I read a few other obit columns and learnt a lot more about him.

May his soul rest in peace.

One of India's GREATS. A visionary unparallelled. The Chanakya of the Twentieth Century India - only sad part is that he wasn't given the Stature Chanakya got, a pity.  His Thoughts and writings must be compiled, which the Future generations will cherish. I salute this Great Personality.
