2/D-8 May 03, 2009 12:02 AM	It is rather sad that the so-called 'modern poetry' lacks rhyme, rhythm and metre - qualities which make the classical works of the giants like Shakespeare, Keats, Milton, Gray, Frost and others so enjoyable even today. Maybe there is a marked decrease in the ability to use the English language for creative purposes nowadays. Being raised on a staple diet of the creations of the aforesaid masters, I can never understand or appreciate the 'modern' poetry of the likes of Arvind Krishna Mehrotra. In any case, I wish him luck. The five year stint in Oxford will at least assure him of a comfortable retirement, if nothing else.
