'That your entire edifice of numbers on the black money issue is a total hoax has been demonstrated most convincingly by two of India's most distinguished economists -- Ashok Desai and Bibek Debroy -- who have both been critical of the Congress as well in the past on various issues.'

Wasn't the BOFORS kickback routed through Swiss Banks?? Wouldn't obtaining details about Swiss Bank accounts reveal those accounts too??? The "hidden Indian millions in Swiss Bank" is similar to TYTLER- SAJJAN KUMAR issue- procecute them and Congress become party to Sikh massacre. Obtain details of Swiss Bank accounts and BOFORS will be traced to Congress.

So who has more reasons to lie??? Your guess is as good as mine!!!!!!

Though, unconnected to the subject,i as a Kannadiga hate this Jairam Ramesh,a Tamilian from Bangalore for calling Kannadigas as quarrelsome people while talking about inter state river disputes. Now just quoting two economists does not make Mr Advani a liar. What has this Jairam Ramesh to say about Quttrochi, the bosom friend of Rajiv and Sonia getting 20crores by devious ways.Does he want Advani to raise Rajiv Gandhi's Bofor's scandal all over again? It is laughble that he should indulge in mud slinging against Mr Advani just to curry the favour of Sonia Gandhi.

Dear Mr Jairam Ramesh,
I do not see any reason to crisize Mr Advani for suggesting to try and get back these Indian black money stashed away in Swiss Banks, now that the Swiss Govt and the Swiss Banks are willing to co-operate in this matter, which was previously not the case. By mentioning that there might be black money belonging to BJP supporters and BJP party also, are you by any chance worried that your own party's and its supporters' black money will also be unearthed?

Mr. Ramesh,
I don't understand your logic. Are you saying that there is no Indian black money in these 'Tax Shelters'? Mr. Advani had not brought it up when he was in power position, so he can not do now? Are you saying that the economic condition at present is same as it was five years ago? Congress has not brought up this topic for past fifty some years that is why the Congress is afraid to bring this subject up? Bottom line is only relatively purer (at least when it came to black money) politician would dare to go where Mr. Advani is going.

Jairam ramesh, what is your point ?

1. Are you saying that there is no illegal indian money stashed in swiss banks?

2. If you think there is Indian money in these banks, you should support advanis idea. unless you are afraid of skeletons from the congress cupboard.

3. if you feel advanis estimates of this illegal money is too high, why dont you give us your realistic estimate & work towards getting it back? even if it is just 20% of what advani stated, it still is a lot of money

We have reading Indians have amassed trillions of dollars in Swiss Bank.
Congress has ruled the nation for decades and its influential people have deposited money there.
This black money is in trillions of dollars.

Ramesh himself says in this letter'that there are Swiss bank accounts is incotrovertible...part of your election funding coming from these source'

So what he is cribbing about? Is it his case that the figures for Indian Swiss bank pile are much more or less than what Advani quoted ? A few millions here & there? Does that really matter? That's beating around the bush.

Is he sure some part of election fund of his own party does not originate in dubious sources , a Swiss bank for example? Is'nt it the only the other day that their own new SEBI chief relaxed norms of share purchase by foreign entitities through P-note route which his predecessor introduced & which conceals the color of the money? Is he sure all these FII inflows into the stockmarket, which all of you adore, is not really foreign but mostly Indian money coming back to be dry-cleaned?

It is another matter that once in power , both Advani & Ramesh will forget all about Swiss Banks, Caiman Islands,Leichteinstein & sundry such places not to mention our own Maurisus.

The vitriolic language used by Jairam shows that he and the Congress are nervous.Sure sign that they are seeing the writing on the wall.Jairam admits that there are thousands of billions of dollars of Indian money in Swiss Banks. How does it help Jairam to call Advani a lier? And this fondness of Congressmen to hurl back at BJP the accusation that it did not do any thing when it was in power also shows nervousness because it is a poor argument.

The oldie going senile Advani keeps milking the emotive cow!

One of the two latest emotive issues he is harping full throatle is black money in foreign banks stashed by Indians that if brought back would wipe out all the misery of Indian poor.

Not even a single word he has uttered on steps he would take to stop the money train going out. Who is fooling whom if he thinks the train would stop running as soon he comes to power!

BTW, not all money stashed in the foreign banks is illegal. A good number of Indians have a few millions of legal money deposited in foreign banks.

Money earned result of over and under invoicing has both tax and legal consequences. The government would take decades to make a legal case against the depositors that fall in that category.

Money earned by visiting Indians and not reported is primarily a tax evasion issue. The government claim is tax due and penalties in Indian tender. Not a big deal!

Indian political bosses and ministers get kickbacks from foreign and local concerns for promoting their interests. This money is tainted and illegal outright. No denying that many of the political bosses have assets have many times more than they would have earned in their normal earning capacity. The money is both in foreign banks and in Indian investment vehicles.

There rarely, though, had been any conviction of any minister, Congie or otherwise, on money fraud charges. Not a single cent has been put back to the government exchequers even though the money is in India. How many decades it would take to get the money in foreign banks back? Get real, man!

JR to LKA:>>"can you tell the country one single step you took to get Indian accounts in Swiss banks made transparent?'

But, in those days, swiss banks would not have agreed, even if asked by advani. But, now they all seem to be shaken up, bec of the failure of criminalized capitalism all over the world. They are willing to give the info, when asked by countries like germany. They may be willing if india also asks.

There must be a transnationally agreed procedures developed for confiscating crminals' accumulations in swiss-banks and using the funds for the infra-structure development in their own countries, exploited earlier by these criminals, politicians or otherwise. This procedure will be helpful for the regeneration of the economies of all the countries of the world, needing it badly now.

Jairam ramesh Sir,
1--Isn't it a fact that Swiss Banks accepts deposit irrespective of the method of generation - drug money, terrorist money, blood money, kick back money or money generated by third world leaders by snatching food from the mouth of "hungry millions"??? Wouldn't The Swiss Banks officials have traveled all the way to Jerusalem to accepted deposit of even the 30 silver coin Judas received for betraying Jesus, had it existed then???

2-- Isn't India one of the most corrupt country in the world???? Hasn't Kick back galore occurred in most weapon deals??? So isn't logical that such funds would be deposited in Swiss Banks???

3-- Evidently, the demand by Mr Advani has hit extremely important people in the Congress Party and there is only one family in Congress Party for whom Mr Jairam will call Advani a "liar" and Mr Mehta will oblige by publishing "such an offensive statement" it in OUTLOOK. "CHOR KE DHADI ME TINKA- that is why CONGRESS IS PANICKING.

Jairam calls Bibek Debroy as one of India's most distinguished economists. About Ashok Desai I know nothing. But Debroy is the one who did a research on Indian states under the aegis of Gujarat government providing the funds eight years ago and ranked Gujarat as 11th way behind Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Goa. This led to such a furore that he had to hide his tail between his legs and run or he would have been beaten. I hope Jairam is aware of Debroy calisthenics.

While Rahul Gandhi did not have the grades to make it to Delhi's St. Stephens College, he was admitted in the sports quota for his shooting skills. His contemporaries at college remember him as a low-profile, reserved person. Said Upinder Singh, who currently heads the college's History department: "His stint at St. Stephens was too brief to judge his academic merit." Later, Rahul Gandhi shifted to Harvard University. According to the Harvard alumni records, he attended the school between 1990 and 1993 (which makes him an exact contemporary of Jyotiraditya Scindia there), lived off campus and did not get a degree. However, Jairam Ramesh claims that he transferred to another school in Massachusetts because of "security concerns", and completed his Bachelors degree. While media reports claim that Rahul Gandhi is not listed on the college database, Ramesh asserts that "in 1995, he got an M.Phil. in the economics of developing countries from Trinity College, Cambridge.

The expressbuzz article says the following version, see the citation below and the web link given in this page.

According to the University, Rahul read for the MPhil in 2004- 05, and not in 1994-95, as stated in his affidavit.

Now Jairam Ramesh asserts Rahul got MPhil in 1995 in the Hindu web site link. What and whom should one believe.

Jairam Ramesh has his undergraduate degree is in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B),

Banks are For Profit institution and make money by putting the deposits in circulation. Policing is not their profession, and would never be.

Most politicians of other developing countries, also, are corrupt like that of India. They, though, do enjoy their ill-gotten money by living outside their countries; Indians have no such option. Has anyone seen any Indian politician or siblings flaunting their wealth? Not even Mayawati!

It would take years and millions of Rupees to the government to prove cases against the politicians, a few of them are now dead. The attempt is like throwing good money after the bad.

All efforts should be made to plug the loop holes for future. But then, the old goat can never think rationally!

if so then you can say the same for older people in your family.

regarding mr advani, everyone knows that unlike the congesswallahs he is a pricipled man.

he praised jinnah-a tough descision- and faced
the fury of his party.

he has written a book.

Senility is an age based phenomena. Age is unbiased, and showers its bounties, good or not so good, to all.

Respecting is different than following. Most oldies realize their diminished potential, take to advising, and willingly yield to the young. Others act as leaches to the determent of those whose destiny they have power to shape.

The old man Advani is one of the “Others”.

Jairam Ramesh's histrionics and tantrums apart, there are fundamentally two questions....The actual value of the loot which the so called well known economist Bibek Debroy in an unscientific manner trivializes to 25 billion dollars. However, he also agrees that actual amount cannot be accurately inferred. Ultimately, whether the sum is 100 billion or 1500 billion is secondary, the primary objective is to expose all the corrupt politicians for which there is a wholehearted national consensus.

Secondly, Jairam accuses Advaniji of being inactive on this issue during his tenure. This is downright uncharitable and misleading. The well known journalist who is always critical of the BJP in an article "Should you Vote" [
http://www.boloji.com/myword/mwna064.htm]
informs us that "Under US pressure Switzerland altered age old laws to make public the secret accounts of criminal money stashed in its banks. Of the entire world’s nations – America, Russia, China and Europe – India has the largest amount of black money stashed in Switzerland. Whether it belongs to businessmen, bureaucrats or politicians, this criminal money could not have been earned without collusion by politicians. The Indian government has declined to take advantage of the new Swiss laws to identify the criminal account holders" Previously, during NDA regime the Swiss banks would never reveal the name of the account holders. It is only recently in the aftermath of the global recession that US pressure has forced the Swiss Banks to reveal their privileged information.

But that is not all. In an article date, 21st of May, 2008 in the Times of India, "India silent on tax cheats: Germany Ready To Reveal List Of Indians With Funds In Tax Haven", it is revealed German government, which has obtained a list of account holders at Liechtenstein’s LTG Bank, is willing to part with the names. The German federal government has been willing to do this free of charge since February. Several countries including the US, the UK, Canada, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Ireland have already used the opportunity to zero in on their citizens who have evaded taxes and smuggled their wealth to the principality, the sixth-smallest country in the world. But

[b]Transparency International had critically chastised the UPA government for maintaining “a stoic silence over the issue and has not approached the German government for this data. The Indian ministry of finance and PMO have, however, not shown much interest in finding out about those who have their lockers in the secret banks of Liechtenstein which prides itself in its banking system’’.

Jairam Ramesh >> Goebbels believed that if you keep repeating a lie several times, people will begin to believe it. Your ideological brotherhood has perfected this dictum.

Here are some lies that you may be interested in pointing out:

* There was zero loss to exchequer by the 2g spectrum aution by Raja in 2007-2008 period

* A gentleman, a Sikh , a learned and able economist and architect of India's financial reforms, states that he is a resident of the North East Indian City of Guwahati and this gentleman gets elected to the Upper House not once but many times making this statement.

These two lies were stated respectively by your cabinet colleague and by the boss whom you report to. And they continue to stand by the lies and their consistency would put Goebbels to shame.

Jairam Ramesh >> But I would like to ask you a straight question -- in the six years that you were Home Minister, can you tell the country one single step you took to get Indian accounts in Swiss banks made transparent?

Very true, very true. Now as someone belonging to a party that has ruled for FIFTY SIX Years, what are the steps you are taking to get Indian accounts in Swiss banks made transparent?

Even if we agree that Advani and the NDA were remiss, what has the UPA government done in the 7 years it has held the reins of power? If it is only going to be as slack as its predecessor what is the need to chnage the govt? why exchange one set of incompetents for another.

Mind you the BJP is no better. Yeddyurappa's defence against charges of corruption and misuse of power for personal gains is that Kumaraswamy did the same.

Ramesh has brought shame to his fellow IITians by

1. Using environmental clearances to trap Industrialists to come forward to pay respect to rahul. So cairn vedanta deal provoked you to halt vedants clearances. Again strangely the same projects are granted clearances after the Industry pays respect to janpath.

2. Promoting jaitapur and other Nuclear power deal with Areva. Recently germany has decided to abandon nuclear power and italians have said no to nuclear power. But here on your masters instructions you say jaitapur plant will come what may happen. We guess there is potential to make huge amount of money in tax havens.

3. Your attack on advani is part of effort of politicians to hijack the fight against black money and portrait it as BJP vs congress or communal vs secular. while inside all the politicians are corrupt and are together on this.

Ramakrishnan2 >> Promoting jaitapur and other Nuclear power deal with Areva. Recently germany has decided to abandon nuclear  power and italians have said no to nuclear power.

The elite of India , the movers and shakers, the media people who give coverage to the so called green issues all live in Mumbai. They are not just residing in Mumbai, but heavily invested in it too . And Mumbai cannot survive without cheap, limitless electric power. So that explains why not just Jairam, even MSM (MainStreamMedia) is silent about Jaitapur power plant even as they cry hoarse about POSCO Steel plant (something that will not harm ecology as much as a nuke power plant and something that will only displace betel leaf growers). The hypocrisy is stunning. And for Congress, Mumbai is everything, it
is Mumbai's elite whom the party and its dynasty work far. So dammed it be if some thousand or lakh villagers lose their livelihood for that Jaitapur power plant. Who cares, as long as the elite of Mumbai see the ever rising horizons of Mumbai's skyscrapers. And the last thing these elites want to see is powecut when they are boozing and dancing in the dingy bars during late nights.

PS - Let me add that I am neither for nor against nuclear power - am only trying to expose the double standards, not just of Jairam but also the ruling UPA and also the MainStreamMedia (which is mostly pro establishment) on so called green causes.
