Literary Festering

Apropos the feature Fest La Vie, we’re inundated with such a vast set of festivals that we’re becoming truly in-fested.

Harsh Rai Puri, Bhopal

Every literary festival seems to have established a cult where today’s pseudo-intellectuals preen themselves. In fact, literature has become driftwood in this stream. The literary genius of those long-gone committed writers may become a rarity.

Apropos Fest la Vie (Jan 30), all’s fair in fests. The business side is paramount. Hence all the fancy locations and fancy wines. It’s a culture industry out there and it is going to get bigger. That festivals list will soon need to be updated with a whole barrage of new ones over the next few years.

It is like the growth of the food industry. Culture vultures too have to be fed and coddled.

If the culture industry has prolifreted far & wide & the vultures also are having a feast. Arpita Basu has done great service to the culture touts by thoughtfully researching & listing all of the events lest the vultures missed any. She has also caused a great diservice to culture itself as one cultural event at Jaipur is threatening to railroad the election in UP.
