This count-the-poor exercise is so murky (Find Me Some Destitutes, Oct 17), nothing good will come of it. Not to forget Soniaji who wants to claim that she “fed” India and perhaps wrangle a Nobel for it.

So the number of BPL families are at an all-time low. Let’s celebrate, UPA.

In dollar terms, the poverty line is 50 - 60 cents per person per day, not quite the India story that animates the WEF at Davos.

Montek has already said that BPL limit Rs32 and Rs26 wont be revised by the PlanningC. If Govt wants to extend some benefits to the poor it can fix its criterea. And exactly that is what this exercise is all about. So number of  BPL are not going to increase. Celebrate UPA.

Why is the tax payers money being spent to pay Montek and his loonies to conduct an exercise overdone, unrepresentative and in Montek's intent.."just an updated revision of no consequence" being allowed? Why are these moronic bureaucrats being kept in such positions? I undertsand that Montek may have a sugar daddy in MMS but that does not let the Congress party freely dole out Public money and paychecks for nonsensial exercise. Could we actually do a realistic study of the poverty line that is connected to the quality of life? God sake resign if you haven't figured out how to do that...!

Does nt the Indian media understand that this is part of a ploy to get MMS credibility in the international arena?

After all, there are international leaders fed on the myth that MMS was going to transform the country and its health and education. But the man has only earned the wrath of the people for allowing corruption on a mega scale and buying MPs to keep his seat intact and bringing anti-male laws as ordered by his queen.

Before the Indian public kick him out, he is employing his sardar friend to juggle the figures around - like anti-male activists do all the time.

If we dont agree with the data. So what is the right level for BPL cutoff then ??

How much does it cost to implement that ? (remember taxpayers have to pay that)

This exercise is so murky right at the begining itself, you can expect not so great results out of it, evetually we will end up having a scam like no other. Not to mention it is Sonia who wants to claim that she "fed" India, so much for the Nobel prize!!!

In this context a comment by a member of a civil soeciety group on the twefth plan approach paper circulated by the Planning Commssion & aproved by the MMS cabinet is highlighted in a fortnightly . Its a telling & in all this mayhem  about poverty, malnutrition, lack of health care, corruption gives the still stuborn drift of the core group which really runs the country. If anybody has an agenda this Planning Commission has one.

"A broader analysis of the documentcomes out from a simple summation of some key words & how many times the words were used. It also gives an idea of the direction that the Planning Commission is taking. The words & threir usage : Dignity 0 , Hunger 0 , Equality 0 , Human Rights 0 , Dalits/scheduled castes 2 , Tribal/Adivasi 8 , Farmers 38 , PPP 45 , Market 67 , Growth 279."

That was in  a 15 chapter thick book. Actually this Rs. 32/- , Rs. 26/- traculence is the method of  these usurpers rather little madness as some one would like to dismiss them. What one sees on TV or reads in news papers are trivialisations.

Empty Montek's pocket.Give him Rs 32. Drop him at the cheapest dhaba in Delhi. Order for him 2 chapatis, a small kotora of daal tadka and a tandoori chicken tangdi (with a small piece  of  raw onion as salad) and make him pay the bill. He should be told that any other meal/expense for the day should be from the balance.Let us see how long he lasts!Sure, in rural communities one such  meal would cost less but how much less given today's prices? What about the other two meals( forget clothing and medicine)?

Which century are you living in? A tandoori chicken tangdi in Rs 32? Dream on. Daal and 2 chapatis by themselves would not leave much left for anything more
