While it may be too early to analyse the reasons for the electoral setback for the BJP, particularly in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, the instant verdict, on at least Twitter, was that it was a resounding rejection of the Yogi Adityanath and Sakshi Maharaj brand of rabble-rousing and communally polarising campaigning (from Love Jehad to blaming Madrasas for terrorism). Significantly, in UP the absence of BSP ensured that the anti-BJP vote was not divided.

Sri Dinanath Batra, the convenor of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, is not a stranger to these pages. Be it campaigning against A.K. Ramanujan’s seminal essay on the Ramayana or, more recently having shot into the limelight for ensuring the pulping of Wendy Doniger's book on Hinduism, or for sending off legal notices to various publishers to desist from publishing things that he considers not quite kosher.

It now turns out that while the Lok Sabha election campaigning was still in full swing, on March 4, Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama released a set of nine books by Shri Batra to be introduced in Gujarat schools as part of the curriculum’s “supplementary literature”.

Publishers Orient Blackswan (OBS), recently received a notice from Dinanath Batra, the convener of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti (SBAS), for the textbook, Plassey to Partition: A History of Modern India by Sekhar Bandopadhyay, a history professor at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, was defamatory and derogatory to the RSS.

Thanks to Manoj Mitta's piece in the Times of India yesterday, Akshardham attack case: Decoding the other verdict of May 16, we revisit the SC verdict in the September 2002 Akshardham temple attack case.

As Mitta points out, 

While acquitting all the six persons who had been convicted by Gujarat high court , the Supreme Court has brought out many curious aspects of the investigations in its May 16 verdict
