"We know now that Manmohan’s promises amounted to nothing"

It has taken this many years for these "smarts" to figure this out.

" I supported the nuclear deal even though I did not believe the exaggerated claims made for it."

That is a curious way to support something.

“Then, too, the media uncritically bought the government’s position”.

No, Sir Indian English media always supports congress position, not the government position.
“On the day that the Congress mustered enough support to win the no-confidence motion”
We all know how? Who got benefitted by cash for vote scam and who is in Jail? And our elite Delhi English media conveniently overlooked it!!

Basically, Congress Sycophants are in media too.
I wonder how democracy works in India. This FDI decision is made by Cabinet Committee (basically 4 or 5 congressis). Why FDI issue was not discussed in the parliament before bringing it. Now PM wants to talk it out with opposition. I say hell NO….

FDI in retail is to benifit US and Europe- import from China, sell in India and take profit to US and Europe. Pushed in haste as US and Europe facing economic down slide. Else  Indian supply chain could be improved- stop all Octoroi, Police collection from trucks, allow private storage of food grains, subsidised loans for refrigirated storage and transportation of perishable goods etc.(Indians get bank loans at 14% while Wall Mart will come with bank loans at 2-4%).

If improving efficiency was the criteria for FDI in retail can we have some FDI in COURTS and Armed Forces?? US judges would have hanged  Kasab long back, AAM ADMI would get speedy justice and US Armed Forces would blast all Jehadi Camps along Indo-Pak border as is done on AFPAK border!!! Financing USA fight against terrorism will benefit all Indians as it will stop more 26/11. Any takers???

what takes for this guy Sanghvi to be so discredited that  nobody touches him anymore.

This guy has been  shown to be taking dictation from Nira Radia and still his friends in media behave as if nothing has  happened.

It appears we are stuck with him and Barkha Dutt  forever. Nothing can stop these people from pontificating  to people.

Quite apart from the extent to which the Indian economy and the fight against inflation will benefit from multi-brand FDI, both substantial in one's view, there is also a question of mindset involved. Either we are instinctively against opening up or we welcome change. At a time when even Myanmar is reaching out to the outside world, no reason for us to fear the foreign hand.

I must say I did not expect such report from Vir Sanghavi, especially when he criticised media (TV) of blindly supporting MMS-Congress.  They are wrong when they say you can never get "Ganga-Jal" from crow's ass.

How can any one paint it as problem of parties support base. It does not benefit farmers and it does not benefit current retailers because it will wipe them out. Farmers do not get paid any more than now. The extra money simply goes to grow the Walmart, Tesco etc. The processing etc of local produce could start happening perhaps for another 5/10 years after opening any store as most of these stores will be supplied by chinese goods. So, basically granting the FDI in retail, indirectly will be benefiting china . What is needed is the processing capacity, cold storage and cold distribution of perishables. The existing wholesale merchants should be made to invest in those areas. For this they can be given some tax benefits on such new capacity and some targets e.g. that in next 6 months, one such facility will be required in this area if you want to carry on operating etc.

Somasundaram >> Sorry Vinod Mehta. How and why do you publish this of Vir?

The different English news media houses vary only in style not in substance. And different english media persons , be it a prannoy or rajdeep or our venerable vinod or the honourable veeru all vary only in style - their end objective is to be loyal to the ruling dynasty.

My comments are as under: (1) Small Kirana stores have the resilience to face challenging situations. Consumers want value for money. .Let all small retailers join hands to form a company in every district/big metro city. This company can handle middleman’s functions which would result in reduction in distribution costs. Thus difference between the price charged or a commodity by the producer/ manufacturer and final price paid by consumers, would be reduced.(2) Incidentally it is clear that State governments of political parties opposed to the FDI in retail as well UPA governments are not making any serious efforts to see that there are direct transactions between the manufacturers, farmers etc and the retailers. This way distribution cost in retail business, particularly the middleman's profit, would be considerably reduced. (3) Lastly, discerning consumers want to know what is the alternative to FDI in retail that BJP/ other parties have in mind to serve the cause of consumers?
