I'm constantly reminded of this beauty by Jagjit Singh Sahab.
Gham bade aate hain, Qatil ki nigahon ki tarah
Tum chupa lo, muhje ai dost, gunahon ki tarah...
RIP Jagajit Singh, Har taraf ishq ki raahon mein kari dhoop hain dost, bas teri yaad ke saaye hain panahon ki tarah!
Although he has left us for a new journey, he will be among us forever or at least till my journey ends. As Javed Saab said, Jagjit Singh's voice had a magic which would bring a sense of peace, whatever be the situation. Having grown on daily supply of music, I could not even think of a day which goes without music especially Ghazals.
Most of the favourites are mentioned in the list.. however, one Ghazal I don't seem to forget and is not in the list is -
ZINDAGI, TUNE LAHOO LE KE DIYA - KUCH BHI NAHI....
MERE HAATHO MEIN LAKEERON KE SIVA - KUCH BHI NAHI... ZINDAGI
Without him, I know my generation would have been lost to the beauty that is Ghazals - I know I would have been. And if I was lost to Ghazals, I would have been lost to Blues too. I cannot imagine what a reduced existence it would have been.
His voice will remain immortalized. I know my children listen to "english" music today but I am sure one day as they grow up they will discover Ghazals and Jagjit Singh again will be one of the reasons for their discovery of this heritage and enriched by it.
