You know what, lately I have started hating the word "Democracy"

You can call me Sanghi or other names. However, the parameters which measures what comes within democracy and what outside it, is being decided by only a handlful of socialist, journalists and so called secularists of this country on television debates. Views of the rest of the majority among one billion Indian population are kept on back burner. This is what you call democracy? Congress supporters are secular and rest all are communal? People of the states ruled by congress are secular and ruled by others are communal? Is this a way to show the meaning of democracy to the people. This word "Democracy" has become a tool for so called secular people, party, activists for political purpose.

In my frank opinion, Democracy (these days) is more like DEMONS HYPOCRACY. All the demons want to use this to trick people and hide theri hypocracy.

Somewhere else Mr Mehta wrote, "I don't really agree with with everything what she writes, but we are mostly on same page".
I am not sure if that stand still stands after above discussion. I watched that on NDTV, and am sure that it is not same page. On one hand Mr Mehta is still struggling to find the meaning of Azadi, while Ms Roy is sure that Kashmir was never a part of India.
I do wish Mr Mehta to clarify if it is the same page.

can anyone say when was kashmir part of india. under british india,pakistan,srila...rilanka,burma,afghan all were together.india was carved out of it and a nonexistent pakistan was carved out followed by bangladesh.nations/k...ions/kingdoms/states r a evolving process and there is no continuity for anyone in the history of mankind.
i know of several people/leaders in tamilnadu who have this saying on their desk(illathathai pettraar jinnah, irunthathai ezhanthaar anna which means that jinnah got a nonexistent one while anna lost a existing tamil nation).we r not a country with a brute majority of a single tribe/religion/caste/language and the suspicion of the other is strong. dialogue is the only way forward as 21st century is the century of unions like EU and the romance of independence as the cure for all ills is past its sell date.

VM has chickened out! The definition of Arundhati Roy on Azaadi is pretty clear. The point is does VM support secession? If so, do his political bosses support as well? I see a clear agenda of Congress is muddling up the whole thing to may be prepare ground for letting go of Kashmir. I find it extremely strange that closet sycophants are tumbling out in support of Arundhati Roy. Well I think these guys too should pick up a gun or may be a stone and fight for Azaadi if they feel so strongly about it. Anything short is betrayal of Kashmiri people. Ofcourse it will be good riddance for India.

What else expected from Hindu ? Isn't this amazing all these liberal leftist talk about free speech when the story is related with Arundhati or MF Hussain. The same losers will chicken out when issue of Taslima Nasreen or Danish cartoons come up. They may excite likes of Anwar, but why these hypocrites have no credibility.

The discussion on NDTV was pretty interesting. At the end, VM looked like a pathetic loser supporting Arundhati.

You may disagree with the editorial policy of The Hindu, but it remains perhaps one of India's top five English daily newspapers.

I read Hindu for its sports and music/cultural articles. I think they are one of the bests there, specially articles on classical music.

What has that got to do with the validity or otherwise of the arguments it makes?

"What does Azadi mean? Does it mean secession? Or does it mean freedom from police excesses?"

My Hindi is pretty rusty but I thought Azadi means freedom. What else does it mean? Samosas? Butter Chicken? Cricket bat? Outlook magazine?

The issue is quite simple. The land belongs to India. If the kashmiris living on Indian land does not like it, they are free to move to pakistan or Siberia or North Korea.

But not one inch of land will be given to them should they decide to leave.

This is the bottomline.

Bit and Pieces from POK..

Pakistan, as an Islamic Republic, imposes multiple restrictions on people’s religious freedom in areas of Kashmir under its control. Shias and Ismailis are subject to discrimination and have been targets of sectarian violence. The majority of population of the Northern Areas is Shia unlike rest of Pakistan which is majority Sunni. The constitution of Azad Kashmir specifically prohibits activities that may be prejudicial to the states accession to Pakistan and as such regularly suppresses demonstrations against the government. A number of Islamist militant groups operate in this area including Al-Qaeda with tacit permission from Pakistan's intelligence.
--------------------...--------------------
POK seems perfect in sync with Islamic Republic of Terrorism - Pakistan. What a democracy.

We did not follow Pakistan on the measures taken in POK, so this cry of Azadi in Indian Kashmir.

Ms. Roy claims that Kashmir was never a part of India. Can she please furnish any proof to the contrary?

I have no arguments over her literary skills. But it's her involvement in issues with superficial knowledge base, her penchant for sensationalism and her craving for publicity which I find very revolting.

In fact i wonder who is in a more pitiable state????
