My testimony to a return, after seven years, to Kanhupur, a sea-gnawed coastal village in Kendrapada district of Orissa

On the night of the new moon in May 2007, the sea took over Purostama Raut’s house in Kanhupur in Kendrapada district. I had met him two days later, and found him tying the pots and pans he had recovered from his abandoned house to his bicycle, as he fled to higher ground

This photo-essay is my testimony to a return, after seven years, to Kanhupur, a sea-gnawed coastal village in Kendrapada district of Orissa. It’s India as it once was. The district is currently battling the flood waters as the monsoon wreaks its yearly havoc.
