Dr. B.R Ambedkar is defnitely the greatest Indian but giving M.K Gandhi a free pass of Greatest Indian is absurd. The organizers very well knew that if M.K Gandhi is put into the competition he would defnitely be way below others.

Other competitiors were specialised in their own field but were far behind the position of being the greatest Indian,  like Mr. APJ Abdul Kalam who has played a role in a creating a destructive Missile which could only give pain to humanity and obviously obtained the technology from the Russian/European Technology cannot even be considered but blind Indians have voted him just because they didnt like Dr. Ambedkar winning,  whereas Nehru for is proactive measures and initializing the industrial revolution is far superior than Mr. Kalam. The greatest Indians before Dr. Ambedkar were Bhagath Singh, Mr. & Mrs Mahatma Phule, Siddhartha Gauthama Buddha and several social reformers who have brought Liberty, Equality, fraternity among the citizens of India.

Dr. Ambedkar's work and mission is as relevant today as its 60 years ago, he brought about policy of equal oppurtunity among those 85% Indians who were slaves of Hindu caste system. He helped to break the age old hindu caste system which deprived dalits/OBC's from education, resources. His contribution of drafting the constitution is highly recognized internationally though his entry into constitutional assembly was vehemently opposed by Congress and Gandhi. His work 'Problem of Rupees' was highly effective to the Royal commission which helped to set up the Reserve Bank of India, his contribution in Women empowerment in the name of Hindu code bill was vehemently opposed by the castist people,his contribution in setting up Hirakud project is forgotten and even the castist intelluctuals are spreading wrong information that Dr. Ambedkar didnt do anything in the constitution just because they cant see a Dalit Intellectual growing high.

Dalits and several others with his inspiration have fought ahead and are becoming educated, though majority are still in the lower rung due to unavailibility of finacial resources, minimum goverment sprending and high resistance of the castist hindus atrocity who vehemently oppose any kind of representation of dalits given by the constitution due to their caste sick mentality.

Reservation is neither a matter of policy, political gimmick nor Charity, its a democratic obligation of representation of every community in  the nation which the Caste sick hindus never digest........As said below dalits suffer resistance in every field as they are becoming educated....As Dr. Ambedkar said.

It is your claim to equality which hurts them. They want to maintain the status quo. If you continue to accept your lowly status ungrudgingly, continue to remain dirty, filthy, backward, ignorant, poor and disunited, they will allow you to live in peace. The moment you start to raise your level, the conflict starts. Untouchability is not transitory or temporary feature; it is eternal, it is lasting. Frankly it can be said that the struggle between the Hindus and the Untouchables is a never-ending conflict. It is eternal because the religion which assigns you the lowest status in society is itself divine and eternal according to the belief of the so-called high caste Hindus. No change warranted by change of time and circumstances is possible.

P.S TO Alakshyendra from the below comment, My caste sick hindu brother you have enjoyed 100% reservation from 2500 years in the name of sick Brahminized system wherein you have taken all land, money, educational, resources when will to stop of your sick 100% reservation in the name of brahminical caste system? I can understand that your religous teachings teach only to grab and deprive 85% of Indian population of Bahujans from any resources, for your kind information Dalits throughout centuries have not taken Dhakshina's in the name of God and filled their wealth or have deprived anyone of their land, money, resources but have rather worked hard to fill caste hindu stomachs and luxury,,,,,,,India is not your father's property infact it belongs to all people and resources are equally distributed but as your caste sick mind does not digest the fact of bahujans getting education/jobs,  there needed some civilized laws under democratic setup to protect others of their resources from your sickness in the name of representation a.k.a Reservation.  Prejudice masks the reality and your comment is an example, Never did Dr. Ambedkar ask reservation for 20 years, you pride so much of being intelligent, please use some and find out where did Dr. Ambedkar ask, and if you have some intelligence which I doubt from your comment, please put up a case in Supreme court and fight the case as an Intelligent against your dharma hated reservation rather than using your castist sick mentality against representation of people of India.

Sachin Tendulkar,JRD Tata,Lata Mnageshkar they did not do any thing for the country. They shined in their fields.Sardar Vallbahi Patel iis the Greatest Indian after Mahatma Gandhi. Then comes BR Ambedkar and Dr Shyamprasad Mukharjee.

Ambedkar may well have been the greatest Indian after Gandhi, but the people he fought for are today looking to enjoy freebies and perpetuate the caste system because it will help their future generations enjoy the fruits of someone else's labor. Even though Ambedkar himself wanted reservations to end after 20 years, will even one of those who benefitted from reservations stand up and say that he/she would like it to end - 60 years after independence? No.

 The combined contribution of Sardar Patel (Deputy PM from Aug,1947 to 15 Dec 1950) and Chacha Nehru ( PM from 15 Aug 47 to 27 May 1964) to the stability, progress and establishment of democratic institutions in a newly independent country is colossal.If you just take away his 2 failures viz: Kashmir imbroglio and China syndrome, his role in making India democratic,progressive and a valued country in the comity of nations remain unmatched. Similarly, Sardar's singular acivement of political integration of nearly 600 princely states and securing their accession to India was something unimaginable against heavy odds.They were different. Sardar was hard-core pragmatic,while Nehru was full of lofty visions but complemented each other to place  India on its path of progress. Both should be jointly hailed as greatest Indians after Gandhi.
