Barkha Dutt: Hi Niira
Niira Radia: Hi, did I wake you up?
Barkha Dutt: No, no, no. I’ve been up, yaa, most of the night. The stalemate continues, yaa.
Niira Radia: Yeah. Listen, the thing is that they need to talk to him directly. That is what the problem is.
Barkha Dutt: Apparently now, the message from the other side is, that why did he go? Why did Baalu [T.R. Baalu, former DMK minister] go public? They claim that at this point will they had offered him this formula and this guys said, “no”. This guys never told them they were going to withdraw support. Not withdraw support. But outside support. Apparently, PM was really pissed off ' cause they had went public.
Niira Radia: But that’s Baalu’s doing, naa… he was not instructed by Karunanidhi to do that.
Barkha Dutt: Oh, he wasn’t?
Niira Radia: This is not. He was told to come away and tell Congress that.
Barkha Dutt: And he went public
Niira Radia: Well, the media… media, the media was standing outside.
Barkha Dutt: Oh God. So now what? What should I tell them? Tell me what should I tell them?
Niira Radia: I’ll tell you what it is—the problem and I have had a long chat with both his wife and with the daughter, right?
Barkha Dutt: Haan, haan.
Niira Radia: The problem is if the Congress has a problem with Baalu, if they have no problem with anyone. They need and go talk to Karunanidhi. They have very good relationship with Karunanidhi directly.
Barkha Dutt: Correct, haan.
Niira Radia: Because you see, in front of Baalu, in front of Maran, they can’t talk.
Barkha Dutt: Yeah
Niira Radia: So they have to tell him directly, there [are] enough Congress leaders in Tamil Nadu. They need to go in and tell him exactly—the biggest problem is that the following of Azhagiri is saying that you cannot give Maran a cabinet post and keep Azhagiri in the MoS state.
Barkha Dutt: That’s right. But will Karuna drop Baalu?
Niira Radia: He… look, if you tell him that Baalu is the only problem. I would imagine, he will drop him.
Barkha Dutt: But you see the problem right now is also over the choice of portfolios, naa…
Niira Radia: No. They’ve not said anything. The portfolios have not even got discussed.
Barkha Dutt: Congress claims, for whatever it’s worth, that the DMK wanted surface transport, power, IT, telecom, railways and health.
Niira Radia: Wo tho pehle se list gaya tha
Barkha Dutt: Haa, abhi Congress has offered IT, telecom, chemical, fertilizer and labour
Niira Radia: Yes
Barkha Dutt: So this is where it’ll stand off. Will DMK accept all (or both)?
Niira Radia: Maybe no, because they have to drop Maran if you want them to be accept… Maran is wishing coal and mine.
Barkha Dutt: Who’s wishing?
Niira Radia: Now Maran is saying, you give me coal and more mine. If he.. my honest advice to… is that you need to tell them… tell him directly that we are happy because Kani (M.K.Kanimozhi, Karundanidhi's daughter) got no issue about being even as independent but Azhagiri is now telling her that you cannot take an independent charge if Maran remains cabinet minister. And congress is sending messages through media and through various sources saying that… Maran is going around telling everyone that he is the only acceptable person.
Barkha Dutt: Ya, ya, ya. That I know.
Niira Radia: But that’s not correct na?
Barkha Dutt: No, I know and we’ve (NDTV) have taken that off… We’ve have taken that off.
Niira Radia: But also… Congress needs to tell Karunanidhi that we have not said anything about Maran
Barkha Dutt: OK. let me talk to them again
Niira Radia: Yeah? The choice of candidate we will leave to you. We have some reservation about Baalu. And let them tell the reservation. And we have not said anything about Maran. We are not asking…

I grew up in Mumbai and studies in an english medium (not convent) school. My father profession offered me an opportunity to study for 3 years in a college in Ujjain M.P. I studied in a beg metro and also in a typical Indian small town.
Both , in Mumbai and Ujjain , I learnt that journalism may be the least paid BUT is the nobelest of all professions.
I beleived my teachers and always though that NEWS do not have any colour or relegion,
I also learnt that word NEWS is coined by using ther first letters of North, East, West, South meaning the happennings in all directions are painstakingly recorded and reported by the NOBLE journalist and that NEWS can not be manufactured like a car or any other commodity.
In my late 40s I am thankfull to Brkhadi and Niira didi for the lesson they have taught, that NEWS can be MANUFACTURED and also that a lot of money can be made out of it.
Wish I had met di and didi earlier helping me select a remunerative career. It would have ssaved my effort of studying engineering while my keeping interest in manufacturing alive.
The amounts earned by di and didi are really hughe . It is better to learn to manufacture news than learning technologies for manufacturing goods and equipment.
One just needs to be OK with w#o#i#n#g with the people in Power to earn a good amount.
Fortunately in our country commissions accepted by politicians are known as bribes , where as those earned by others engaged in such kind of w#o#i#n#g are known as professional fees or consultancy charges.
Shame on such dis', didis' and also dadas' !
You could be leaving a bad example behind.
Not everything that comes out in press and media is correct.
Media and media persons have lost there credibility .
Indians like me do not beleive them any more and think they are crooks just like the politicians.
While PIOs and foreigners marrying Indians are most welcome to live and earn India, its high time stricter norms are put in place.
The oil rich countries in The ME could be worth a study for this purpose. It is impossible for foreigners to buy a property and enter government administration their. Even the big private companies are keeping the signing authority with locals and just hiring the foreigners for their professional services. Foreigners are not allowed in key government premises and departments.
These countries are not at backward , the internet there is mush faster and better than iin Modern India controlled by foreigners and foreign money. These countries are already into 4G and have left 2G,3G etc much behind.
These countries stick to the traditional relegion of thier soil, do not speak english as fluently as Indians , continue to wear traditional dress and follow traditional customs.
They do have corruption but not scam as these, and the world takes a note of them too.
Mos timportant they do not sell OIL as where as we Indian appear as willing to sell anything and every thing in the name of freedom and secularism.

I and my friends beleived my teachers and always thought that NEWS do not have any colour or relegion,
I also learnt that word NEWS is coined by using ther first letters of North, East, West, South meaning the happennings in all directions are painstakingly recorded and reported by the NOBLE journalist. It only means that NEWS can not be manufactured like a car or any other commodity.
In my late 40s I am thankfull to Brkhadi and Niira didi for the lesson they have taught,NEWS can actuallt be MANUFACTURED and also that a lot of money can be made by manufacturing NEWS.
Wish I had met di and didi earlier , am sure they would have inspired me to take up a remunerative career. It would have saved my effort of studying engineering and also kept my interest in manufacturing alive.
The amounts earned by di and didi are really hughe . It is better to learn to manufacture NEWS than learning technologies for manufacturing goods and equipment, treating patietns, creating technologies that bring the world and people closer. All other professions are not at all nobel, they just make lives better. Journalism can help one do the lobbying as is successfully demonstrated in this case.Just having time , manners and atittude to make contacts at right places is enough , one does not have to be an expert in any feild for doing this type of work.
Being OK with w#o#i#n#g around with the people in Power gets Big Money Quickly in this nobel profession as compared to any other.
More over in our country commissions accepted by politicians are known as bribes , where as those earned by others engaged in such kind of w#o#i#n#g are known as professional fees or consultancy charges
Indians like me do not beleive them any more and think they are as much crooks as we think the politicians to be.
Even the oil rich countries in The ME could be worth immitating for this purpose. It is impossible for foreigners to buy a property and enter government administration their. Even the big private companies appoint the locals as signing authority while the foreigners are hired just for their professional expertise. Foreigners are not allowed to peek into their policies. When some foreigners marry their prince or princes the foreigners do get their share in family wealth but are kept away from power and public policies. Foreigners are not even allowed in key government premises and departments forget headnig government and things related.
It is interesting to note that these countries are not really backward as we would like to beleive,Infrastructure there is good and the internet is much faster and better than in Modern India which is clearly controlled by foreigners and foreign money. These countries are already into 3G and have already left 2G far behind.
These countries stick to traditional relegion of thier soil (In India it means they are not secular) , do not speak english as fluently as Indians(in India it means they are not educated and talented) , continue to wear traditional dress and follow traditional customs.
(This is the height of backwardness from Indian point of view).
They do not wecome artists and sportsman from countries hostile to them.
Still the world takes a note of them.
They do have corruption but not scams as we have.
They do sell OIL but like us are not happy to sell their own country to anyone and every one.
Probably they are not as progressive and liberated as India. I read some of these countries own some media companies in our India !

Till now I have great respect on Barkha Dutt I am fond viewer of NDTV. Now I would like to submit that, The media people should'nt become news makers. Now I hate BD stopping all her programs.
It is evident from the conversation that both these women specialise in 'Gas'...When high ranking political big wigs incl the pm are closeted in a discussion on cabinet berths or ministerial position it is obsurd to imagine that they would be having journalists among & would be seeking their advice/recommendation on whom to allocate the berths.
The surprising fact is why are such senior journalists with impeccable track records entertaining, receiving directions and moreover responding at all hours to a common PR person and taking such great risks with their hard-built career.
If the journalists in question is not really speaking to the party guys them he/she is providing misinformation and is being party to an artificial atmosphere created due to misinformation. They simply cannot claim why they are being singled-out and tainted for their involvement since celebrity status comes as a package with fame or shame. They just have to accept their mistakes, take the learnings, apologise if there is self-realisation of error and move on to greater things in life.
This is a good expose considering the sensitive people involved in the tapes. All along as a common man we only know there is wheeling dealing in politics, but these tapes actually let us hear the voices attributed to these decaying political, corporate & media machinery.
If outlook or Open had stuck to right of response & sought the comments of people involved prior to expose, then there wouldn't have been an expose. The news would have been killed thru' undue pressure .
But outlook could have left-out the personal conversations as individual privacy is to be respected, as you & me would not like our own personal conversation with friends, family or anybody for that matter being aired to the world. We speak harshly about someone, we speak irrelevant things, we offer unsolicited opinions which are actually embarrassing when made public. There could have been two versions edited & unedited, the edited not having the personal snippets. I for one do not want to know if Nira has a black gown and her unwanted description of a cabinet minister's personality & colour when he blushes. The needless reference to affairs of two married people and a lot more
Nira is the lobyist of the century..There's learning here for anybody aspiring to become a PR person. Her voice modulation is awesome and she is definitely a go getter. But she is definitely unethical as she is discussing the ambani's with the tata's, while client confidentiality is of utmost importance in corporate business.
It is common knowledge and there is also a level acceptance but with regret for the citizens of this country that large corporate houses & politicians are corrupt. But it is a shock and a big letdown when journalists who are the voices of the public, who echo the public outcry and are believed to be an unbiased community get involved with murkier sections of the country.
