Methodology
The Centre for Forecasting and Research (C fore) conducted the survey in six metro’s and Chandigarh. Teachers (632 in all) in each city were asked to evaluate on a 10 point of scale the schools they were familiar with on a 10-point scale under 7 parameters -- competence of faculty, attention to studies, individual attention to students, sports, extra-curricular activities, teaching moral & social values and infrastructure & facilities. Top 15 schools in each city were ranked based on the average aggregate score.

I happy to see my school listed amongst the top 10 boarding schools, but more recent surveys show that it has dropped a long way. I must agree what you said is very true. Two years after your comment, the school gave India its first school MMS scandal :) The moral values seems to have only increased. I took the pain of registering myself to this site just to say THANK YOU! It helps a lot coming from someone who has already been part of the system. 2/D-11 Dec 15, 2002 12:02 AM	I was surprised to see the results of your survey. It makes me wonder why you do not conduct the survey based on the students' or the ex-students' ratings rather than the teachers' ratings which most definitely are not correct. Being an ex-student of one of these "best schools"-I wish to inform you and many other gullible parents that we had absolutely no "individual attention". We would consider ourselves lucky if the teachers would even know or remember our names. There were no "sports". We would often walk in the sport field, chatting and gossiping. In the name of "extra-curricular", we had one hour in the week of some indifferent activity supervised by a bored looking teacher. About "moral values"-the less said the better. Drugs and smoking were rampant. Students were kissing in the corridors, in empty classrooms and on staircases to which teachers would turn a blind eye. About studies, only the bright students were encouraged further while the average or the below average ones were ignored which made the good ones better and the the bad worse. To make the results spectacular, hundreds of bright students from all over the country were taken in the school in the eleventh standard. Is it surprising that the "result" of this school is supposed to be the best ? Essentially, these students are nurtured in other schools like Mount St. Mary's, Loreto Convent, Chinmaya Vidyalaya and Tagore International but are lost to these elite schools in the last two years of schooling. Obviously, those schools don't have a chance of figuring anywhere in your list. I hope parents would wake up to the true nature of these elite, opportunistic schools. The need of the moment is to have confidence in oneself and also in your child. One must stress on value education and not run blindly after these schools.
